((Poolside, Risa))

The eclipse caused by the ensign cleared. Alyndra snuggled back into the sun lounger as if they’d not been there at all. However, they were still there. They looked consistently between their reading material and back to her, as if to-do a double-take. It was a little distracting.

Imril: I’ll just find a place to sit and read this.

Alyndra smiled, putting the sunglasses back firmly on her face and gesturing to the free sun lounger adjacent to her, as if to say “take a seat”.

Syrex: By all means, please.

Imril: Thanks.

The Ensign sat down, taking their bag off and placing it at the base of the lounger. They sat somewhat uncomfortably from what Alyndra could see out of her peripheral vision. They opened their mouth as if to say something, but it was a few seconds before any noise came out.

Imril:  Pardon me, should I be referring to you as ‘Sir’ or ‘Crewman’?

Alyndra turned her head to look at Imril. Still retaining her lounging state.

Syrex: Lieutenant Syrex, but please, call me Alyndra.

Imril: Ensign Imril, Engineering. Imril’s the only name I have. But I suppose you know that already. Have we crossed paths on the Artemis? Or Starbase 118, maybe? I’m sorry, but I can’t place your face or even department.

Syrex: Medical Officer, USS Ronin. She’s an Akira class ship assigned to the Alpha Isles if you didn’t already know.

Imril: Are you transferring to the Artemis, by any chance?

Alyndra grinned, turning her head back to face the sun. An uneven tan, after all is socially fatal.

Syrex: Oh, no. No. Noooooo. I’m here on a working holiday.

Imril: Did the Ronin bring you to Risa, or did you get here some other way?

Syrex: Oh, no. I came on a transport ship. The Ronin’s still in the Alpha Isles.

Imril: ::Mildly disappointed:: Ah. If the Ronin was here, I’d have called them up to see if I could set up a tour. I came over to the Badlands -- to the Artemis -- on an old Centaur-class. But I haven't gotten to see one of the more modern battleships up close yet.

Alyndra sighed. To her, Akira classes weren’t warships, they were her home. The Ronin certainly never felt like a battleship neither. Not just because it was nearly destroyed on her very first mission, but because of it’s charm. The 47 with it’s holographic cherry trees, it’s Zen gardens. The Warp Core!

Syrex: Well, if you ever want a tour feel free to stop by! Although I admit there may be closer Akira classes. I must say however, that I find seeing the Akira class as nothing more than a battleship somewhat problematic.

Imril: Response

Alyndra frowned.

Syrex: because that’s my house. It’s my home, it’s where my family are. We aren’t soldiers. We’re Starfleet, we’re explorers.

Imril: Response

Syrex: I don’t care for the implications of what something was designed to do. I care more for what it is capable of. I understand that you’re an engineer and are used to seeing the world in a mechanical sense, but I’m sure you know what the Artemis is capable of. In a sense other than the specifications listed on a PADD, am I right?

Imril: Response
