Watching Ava get further and further ahead of Roy - making her victory all but assured - Tamio sighed.

K’Wara: I really should’ve bet something. ::snaps their fingers:: This’ll teach me to let an opportunity pass me by!

Roy slowed down even more, fully crouching down at this point, which prompted the ever predictable Tactical Officer to stand up in concern.

Storm: Is he hurt?

Tamio presumed that if he was hurt, the number of Betazoid crewmembers in the stands would’ve been able to tell, so they remained seated with relative ease.

Storm: He’s…Oh my goodness!  He’s tying his shoe.

They grinned as Alex sat back down, throwing her hands to the sky in frustration with Roy’s frankly rotten luck for the entirety of this race.

Storm: When it rains, it pours!

Imril: ::To K’Wara:: So, how would you sculpt this race?

Tamio considered the question for a few seconds, which was long enough for Alex to swoop in with her own recommendation.

Storm: With a much different outcome.

oO She may be a worse loser than Roy himself. Oo

K’Wara: Hmm, I’d likely make Ava the centerpiece. Larger and more expressive in her body language, while Roy is smaller and in muted colors. But with a core of vibrant red or orange, and with grim determination in his face.

Sometimes, it wasn’t whether you won or lost that mattered, but how you won or lost.

Imril: And ::small laugh:: that cat?

Tamio laughed.

K’Wara: Maybe have it hanging out at Roy’s back, a visual representation of expectations dragging him down.

Storm: I think we should call the cat the winner.

K’Wara: ::raised eyebrow:: Ava’s the winner. ::smirks:: Though the cat seems a crowd favorite, at least.

It had certainly acted the part of entertainment, this much was certain.

Storm: Hey, they’re turning toward us.

Alex stood once more, and Tamio watched her calmly for a few seconds before dismissing their concerns. They could bring it up with the relevant people later.

K’Wara: Final stretch now! ::claps excitedly:: Come on, you two! Don’t slow down now!

Imril: Response

Storm: I think he’s finally finding his stride.

They watched as the crew came back to life - not to cheer for any particular person, but to encourage the two runners to cross the finish line strong. Running for five straight kilometers was taxing, no matter how experienced you were, and the show that they’d both put on was deserving of applause regardless.

Imril: Response

Tamio whistled as they watched Ava cross the finish line first, winding down slowly in a demonstration of her experience with this sort of competition. The entire stand intensified their applause of Ava’s performance, as they waited excitedly for Roy to finish.

Storm: Come on, Roy. ::She side-eyed the other two::  Finish strong.

K’Wara: ::bellows:: Good showing!

Imril: Response

Tamio remained at the stands as Alex and several other spectators started heading onto the field itself, thought claiming them for a few seconds, before they started jogging in the same direction. They arrived just in time to hear Bancroft congratulate Ava on her victory with ragged breath.

Bancroft: I do hope you appreciate how irritatingly competent that performance was.

Tamio grinned as they arrived at Ava’s side, though they had to not-so-subtly move some of the congratulating audience away to do so.

Bancroft: ::faintly, with dry resignation:: Thorough work, Commander.

Storm: Yes, Good job, Commander.  ::Turning to Roy:: What did you do to the fates today?

Tamio saluted Ava humorously.

K’Wara: A decisive victory, Ava. Congratulations. ::looks to Roy:: And a very strong showing from you, Roy. Great job.

Munro/Any: Response?

Bancroft: ::genuine smile:: Enjoy this, Commander. ::arching an eyebrow:: But do remember… sequels have a way of being far less kind to the original leads.

Munro/Any: Response?

The promise of a repeat made certain members of the audience chatter excitedly as pats on the back and congratulatory words of affirmation were sent in the direction of the two runners from dozens of excited Artemisians, and Tamio was in agreement.

Next bout was sure to be exciting.

K’Wara: And next time, I’ll definitely be betting.
