((Corridor near Security Training Facilities - Deck 8, USS Artemis))

oO Morpheus: Stop trying to hit me and hit me! Oo

The young Andorian moved quietly through the almost repaired corridors of the Artemis. Every once and a while, he happened upon an Enlisted Crewmen Third Class adjusting a door control or replaying conduit paneling. The Artemis damage was just cuts and scratches now.

The same could not be said for the young Andorian Engineer. His first session with the ship's Counsellor had been… animated. It had taken far beyond the battle with the Orions. It had taken him back to childhood playdates, tears, and recriminations. It had taken him back to the beginning of having to take care when around others, to being careful not to hurt anyone.

oO Morpheus: Stop trying to hit me and hit me! Oo

The young Andorian had been ordered to report to the Security Training Facilities on Deck 8. He had never been there before. Each time he found himself in a section of the ship unfamiliar to him, it served to remind him of how new he was to all this, how inexperienced.

The order had come from Lieutenant Silveira. He knew the Lieutenant by sight only. He was Chief Tactical Officer. He was bonded to Lieutenant Commander Jovenan. And the word was, he was an exceptional cook.

The Andorian doubted it was the latter that had brought him to the Training Facilities.

As he approached the Training Facilities, the young Andorian felt a creeping foreboding. Combat Training at the Academy had been… problematic.

Given his genetic lineage, the Andorian was naturally suited for combat. He had four times the strength of most humanoids, highly developed spatial awareness, and heightened perception in high pressure situations.

oO Morpheus: Stop trying to hit me and hit me! Oo

His instructors saw an Andorian built for combat. What they didn’t see, couldn't possibly see, was an Andorian who had spent almost his entire living memory, trying not to hurt people. He pulled his punches, as he learned to do, as he had been obliged to do, as he had been required to do. His instructors watched with an impatience that grew to annoyance, as he held back and stood off.

Their annoyance finally matured to anger, when the young Andorian Cadet's technique remained sloppy and ill-disciplined. He wanted to fix things, not break them; and so, his technique languished unattended, while he snuck through the course on his genetics alone.

Kurrr-klunk. The heavy double doors of the Security Training Facility parted with a fizzing mechanical riser. The young Andorian stepped across the threshold to find Lieutenant Silveira waiting for him.

Tho'Bi: ::stands to attention and salutes:: Ensign Tho’Bi reporting as ordered, Lieutenant.

Silveira: Response

The Andorian stood at ease. The double doors slid shut behind him.

Silveira: Response

Tho'Bi: ::quiet deliberate:: No Sir, I do not.

Silveira: Response

The young Andorian was confused by the question, but it also made him apprehensive. He attempted to mask his apprehension beneath his initial reaction of confusion.

Tho'Bi: ::confused:: My Academy Gr-Grade for… Combat and Small Weapons? ::glances at his feet:: …a B, Sir.

Silveira: Response

There it was again… that all too familiar assumption that because he was Andorian, he was good in a fight.

Tho’Bi: ::slow uneven:: Yes, I am Andorian, but I am also an Engineer… I just want to fix things, Sir.

Silveira: Response
