(( Bridge — USS Berlin))
A plan of action was always a good thing, or was it? Lorana listened quietly as the intel and tactical officers relayed a plan to board back to Commander Adwa, which he approved.
Her instincts were to go on the offence, exploit the Artemis weakened state, take down their sensors and cripple them. It's what she'd do it this was a game of Rajan.
The first rule of Rajan, in her opinion, was to attack the weaker player. Interestingly this was the same tactic the Artemis tried to employ.
Yellir: Commander— decks five and six house the computer core, phaser control and power distribution, we can wreak havoc from there without needing to be in engineering.
The plan was starting to get interesting. oO This might actually work Oo
Dakora: ::To Hallia:: Perfect. We’ll beam into Elysium on deck five, since it should be empty while everyone is at battle stations. We can beam some decoy cargo near Engineering and the Bridge to keep them guessing. ::He looked up at the others.:: Osuna, Jones. you’re with me.
Luxa felt a pang of disappointment as Hiro stood, along with Osuna and began to leave, offering Adea an enthusiastic nod.
She raised her hand, knowing that this was a respectful goodbye to humans.
Lorana: :: under her breath :: Keep those claws sharp my friends.
Osuna: Right. ::A nod to Jones:: Ready for some fun, doc?
Jones: Absolutely. ::tapping a status update to his medical teams:: I'm updating the remaining medical teams. Dr. Patel will be on the bridge shortly.
Osuna: ::Quietly:: Wel, I’ve got a wife and kid at home – so if you have to choose between saving me or Talos here. ::Smirking:: Well, you get it.
The three of them made their way to the turbolift, and Genkos stood to look at them. Hallia waved, nodding as their forms vanished behind the parted doors.
Adea: Give ‘em hell.
There was a brief stint of silence as one half of the bridge crew had quickly vanished.
Lorana felt the weight of pressure fall on her lithe shoulders. She smoothed out the front of her uniform, straightened her back and inhaled a deep breath.
A friend at the academy, Clara, used to say 'Fake it 'til you make it.' Neither of them really believed it but they had found it on an old Earth imager and it made them laugh, Clara would say it before they entered any training lessons.
Lorana: :: to herself :: Fake it til you make it.
Adea: Any ideas for keeping Addison occupied whilst Talos takes her by surprise?
Yellir: Are you all familiar with the Talupian maneuver?
Lorana: oO I know this! Oo I learned about it at the Academy. If I remember correctly can we mask our signals?
Lorana felt a sense of doubt kicking in. She was eager to impress both Yellir and Adea, who has only ever appeared to be exemplar officers.
Yellir: It’s a trick of the sensors— the idea is by firing off a resonant graviton flare we create the illusion of an approaching warp field, which should be more than enough to keep them on their toes. Depending on what we want them to see, we’d need to fine-tune the pulse. So either we could give them a pretty big fright by making them think a Jem’hadar cruiser is off their port, or we confuse the living hell out of them by copying our own warp field.
Adea: ::furrowing his brow:: I see; is it hard to do? Does it take long?
Yellir: It won’t take very long to do at all— it’s a similar principle to a graviton beam, but in a far smaller burst. It’s not fool proof, but it’ll buy them some time.
Lorana spun her chair around to face Commander Adea, trying to appear confident.
Adea: Right, let’s do that then. Can we do Borg? I’d love to see Vitor’s face when he thinks there’s Borg off the starboard bow. ::he turned to Ensign Lorana:: Any ideas for something scary?
Lorana: Not anything scary Commander, we could also launch a probe? Set it to conduct long range scans, similar to what we're currently doing on the Berlin, alongside the graviton flare, this would give the impression that Berlin, if they suspect it is us, is searching for a way out or looking for them. They're sensors have been badly affected by the plasma stream, at best they could fall for it, at worse it may confuse them if they attempt to fire again?
Lorana hoped that her words conveyed the confidence that she wasn't feeling. She glanced out the viewscreen at the purple nebula outside.
Genkos smiled at his team.
Yellir: Response
Adea: Well then, what was it Captain Picard used to say? ::he thought for a moment:: That’s right… make it so.
Her thoughts went to another nebula. It was red in colour. The Red Death.
((Flashback - Caitian Transport Ship Y'Kiran - Bridge))
Luxa entered the bridge, agitated and ready to give S'karal hell for interrupting the virtual tournament of Rajan. Her team had got to the final round, and she had just missed catching a king nip.
Luxa: We were about to send those Vulcan back to the dust :: spots a swirling red nebula on the viewscreen, stunned :: Is that the Red Death? I thought you said -
S'karal: I said the Red Death has no desire to be poked or prodded.
Luxa: :: moving to the sensor station, excitement taking over :: What changed your mind.
S'karal looks to the Caitian seated at the Comms station, Jesip, and nods.
Jesip pushes a button on his station.
Voice: =/\= :: heavily distorted :: this is captain … Meadows… the … U … Wayfarer … immed … ance … power … nebula … coordinates…=/\=
S'karal lifts his hand.
S'karal: Starfleet should know better. Looks like they wanted to take a closer look :: sighs :: Despite the numerous warnings not to do that.
Luxa: :: reviewing the sensors :: They've been pulled into the nebula by a gravitational eddy, the EM radiation has crippled their power. They're losing shields.
Jesip: We've placed a distress call to Starfleet, the nearest vessel is three days away.
S'karal: How long will they last in there Luxa? I'm hoping all your scientific curiosity might actually come in useful for a change?
Luxa: It's hard to tell. No more than an hour.
S'karal: Jesip any other vessels nearby? Transports, I'll even take a Cardassian freighter at this point?
Jesip: No. This is the long haul trade route, it's not frequently used.
S'karal pauses staring out to the nebula. It's angry red flumes flaring around the starfleet vessel, barely visible now.
Luxa: :: pleading :: We can't leave them S'karal. If that's what you're thinking? They'll die. A ship that size, has around a hundred crew members.
S'karal: If we get pulled into the eddy, we'll be crushed along with them. I'm not prepared to die for Starfleet's mistakes Luxa.
Luxa: There may also be Caitians onboard? Not that that should matter.
Luxa knew that S'karal held deep resentments towards Starfleet, and other species, which was the reason he had collected a crew of Caitians only. It has suited her, she held no ill feeling towards other species, she just felt awkward around them.
S'karal: Jesip keep searching for other ships, even populated planets :: To Luxa :: I don't want them to die but I don't want to lose this ship and this crew either. I have a duty of care to every Caitian onboard, I'll protect you all until my dying breath and that doesn't include running into a dangerous nebula rhay could kill us all.
Luxa: We can alter our EM output so that the nebula won't be attracted to it. This means we wouldn't be pulled in. I've been studying the Red Death for weeks which was why I wanted us to come by and scan it. We could've used the data to prevent more ships being lost to it. Which is probably what the Starfleet ship was doing.
S'karal: That's very noble Luxa. You've forgotten one thing, you're not a scientist or Starfleet.
Luxa had to bite her lip. She watched the readings come in, she could see the shields beginning to fail on the Wayfarer.
She didn't think, her paws sprung into action. She keyed in S'karal's command codes, locking everyone else out of navigational controls. Then she moved the ship forward.
S'karal and Jesip both turned to her.
S'karal: :: alarmed :: Luxa! What are you doing?
Luxa: :: determined:: I'm doing the right thing. This time S'karal I'm making the right choice.
S'karal: :: keying furiously and then stands and moves towards her :: Luxa move away from the station.
The Y'Kiran begins to tremble.
Luxa: It's too late now. We're too close to turn back and I've locked a tractor beam onto the Wayfarer. I've adjusted the shield frequencies to match, if you try and remove us from the ship you'll more than likely push both ships further into the nebula.
S'karal looks to the sensors.
S'karal: Luxa you've doomed us all.
Luxa: =/\= Wayfarer, this is Luxa Lorana, one of the officers on the transport vessel Y'Kiran, sending over shield frequency, please adjust yours to match. We've locked a tractor beam and we're going to pull you out. It's going to be a bumpy ride, and I'll need us to adjust our EM signature in tandem, do you understand? =/\=
Meadows: =/\= Thank you Officer Lorana, we have your instructions =/\=
