(( Computer Core Upper Level - Deck 5 - USS Karnack ))
Ava scanned the computer systems, the team in engineering had done a good job getting them up to speed. She spoke out loud as she parsed the information, still muddied from the power fluctuations and the effects of the maelstrom.
Munro: We've got some partial systems back online. Main Engineering, Partial Sickbay - the Quarantine Suite, that makes sense. Antimatter storage bay, and the shuttle craft room on deck 2 :: sighs :: That's not going to be enough to get us off this planet.
She sent over a status message to engineering, combadges were still inoperable at this stage.
MacKenzie: No, but it's a good start. Where should we move to next?
Bergmen: With the computer online, which system will we need, and which is the closest? Life support?
Life support was essential, at least in the areas of the ship they’d occupy if they ever got to space. If they could recover some EVA suits, they may be able to save power on life support altogether…
Breys: Response
Ava felt a strange separation in herself, like she was suddenly multiplied.
Munro: We may need to split up, Captain?
She said it without thinking. No… she was thinking. She felt a pull towards them. The Things. She shook her head. Not now. She had to keep it together long enough.
MacKenzie: ::nodding:: It might come to that, but I don't like it. There's no telling whether or not the forcefields will remain stable, and I'd rather maintain safety in numbers…
Ava hardly noticed Bergmen return to the upper level, the strat ops officer had been made comfortable now that she was fully out of it. She’d be safe in the computer core - or as safe as anyone could be.
Bergmen: Agree, captain. So far, there is no need to split. Altogether, we make the work needed done quicker.
Breys: Response
The captain turned to the others.
MacKenzie: We have a team in engineering. I think the next possible stop makes sense that we try to get power to the bridge. Any chance of us doing that from here, or are we better off trying to do that via the quarantine suite in Sickbay?
Munro: If engineering can get the shield emitters to work, with the refined modulations we would have a better chance to adapt any remodulations from the bridge :: to Bergmen and Breys :: We’re gonna need quick fingers to keep up with the maelstrom.
Bergmen: Do we need to take over the bridge? Cannot steer the ship from Engineering? The less we stress the ship's systems, the better - for life support, force fields, the list goes on...
Breys: Response
MacKenzie resolutely indicated that the plan was set with a shake of the head. Ava agreed, the bridge would allow them access to all systems and they’d be more responsive when pushing themselves off this planet.
MacKenzie: Alright, then. Grab whatever gear you need and let's get ready to move on. ...maybe we can find a weapons locker along the way.
Bergmen: Aye, ma’am.
Before Ava could move she began to get flashes. Images. Hands working, voices, faces. She blinked and shook her head. It was the effects of the transporters. What had it done to them?
She could feel the Things. There pain would crash into her consciousness like waves that threatened to pull her under into its depths. Depths of a never ending hunger… and sadness. A great misery that she felt herself being pulled by … until a Starfleet delta appeared in her mind.
No.
Not her own mind. Someone else. Imril.
oO Imril:..Think of something about yourself that means ‘you’. That makes you who you are… Oo
Words that weren't meant for her, but she didn't just hear them, she felt what they meant. It was disjointed, other peoples thoughts mixed in with her own. Memories flooded in her mind.
Then her own memories. The thing that made her who she was. Harper.
From the first screams to the moment she first saw her in a Starfleet cadet uniform.
oO Harper Oo
Love was her anchor.
Breys: Response
Bergmen: I will take a couple of steps up on the point, you know, unsecured territory.
She was too distracted to resist and Bergmen seemed to happy with himself. She took a breath, and held on to her thoughts of Harper. And then returned to the task at hand.
Breys/MacKenzie: Response
Bergmen took a deep breath before entering the Jefferies Tube. She indicated to Breys and the Captain to go ahead. There was a slight pause when Bergmen got to the ladder that would take them to the upper decks. .
Bergmen: No, we should take the next one; it’s just two bulkheads to the right. That one ends up right by the Armory on deck four.
Munro: Okay, lets get a move on.
Breys/MacKenzie: Response
It didn’t take them long to make their way through the Jefferies Tubes, and thankfully none of the Things had gotten inside them. Or at least not in this section. They heard screams and scratching from various points in the ship.
Ava felt them crawling in her mind. But mostly it had become a song of sadness. Their screams and howls felt like mourning. Mourning for a fate worse than death.
Regret.
(( Armoury - Deck 3 - USS Karnack))
They emerged on deck 3, not 4. An extra deck to climb. Her arms sore from pulling herself up the ladders but glad to be free of the confined space.
Munro: Captain, I think there’s a lot of them on this deck. I don’t know how but they know what we’re doing. Not fully, they don’t think like us. It’s instinctive :: emotional :: They’re full of so much anger and sadness. It’s :: pause :: overwhelming.
Bergmen/Breys/MacKenzie: Response
Munro: I’m good to continue. I can sense the others, I don’t know if it’s telepathy its more like watching a distorted image. I only get a half understanding of them.
Bergmen/Breys/MacKenzie: Response
