((Ensign Kel’s Quarters - Compartment 11, Sector 3, Deck 5, USS Artemis-A))

Kel: Is there a way to know…if I killed anyone?

What a question... Not at all what Gila had expected to be faced with when she took it upon herself to come and ensure that Ensign Kel was going to show up to his forthcoming counseling appointment. And yet, what else had she expected? It made sense that the thoughts of those formerly assimilated rested entirely with the actions they’d committed while under the Borg’s control. Nevertheless, being faced so directly with the notion that her junior officers had to grapple with this burden - some still very early into their career in Starfleet - was overwhelming the demure Doctor.

And still, the Ensign deserved an answer. And she had to give on that reflected her position as his senior officer...

oO I hate being a JG Oo

Sadar: Ensign, you didn’t kill anyone. The Collective did. ::pause:: But... I don’t know. The experiences of those assimilated during Frontier Day have been numerous. Some experienced everything with perfect clarity, some escaped into their own minds to shield themselves, and others again claim to have seen nothing at all until it was all over.

Kel: I see….thank you for letting me know, Lieutenant.

Gila neglected to take the easy way out of the conversation that the Ensign’s gratitude offered her, sensing that her weak assurances had done little to assuage his emotional crisis.

Sadar: ... If... Th-There’s a chance that counseling might trigger such memories for you, Ensign. That once time has passed, and your brain decides it has the capacity to process that trauma, the memories will become unlocked.

Kel: It’s alright, I want to talk about this. I can’t let this stew in my head.

That was a commendable attitude, particularly considering how dreadful the memories could be.

Sadar: No one on this Ship holds what happened against you, Ensign Kel. It would be illogical to do so. You were not in control, and according to testimonies from the Security Center, your last conscious act was to request your superior officer to shoot you…

For some reason, that elicited a dark chuckle from the Ensign, and Gila felt her brow ridges vibrate slightly, as she struggled to read the situation. Was this a good chuckle - one that signified lifted spirits or a response to some humor she’d accidentally injected into her comforting intent? - or a ‘she’s a lunatic’-chuckle?

Kel: He managed to get me down before I could hurt him. I suppose I should be grateful it was a stun and not a kill.

Gila didn’t want to entertain the notion that Lieutenant Savel would ever set a phaser on ‘kill’, or what kind of situation would necessitate that kind of behavior if Frontier Day didn’t. At this moment, it wouldn’t do neither her nor Ensing Kel much good to imagine a day darker than Frontier Day.

Sadar: Resisting the Collective is near impossible to do unassisted. You managed to do so for a time to do what you considered your duty. What followed was inevitable... ::sighs:: It will no doubt be known as the darkest day in the Federation’s history. For everyone, assimilated or not. All we can do now is turn our eyes to the future, together.

The Ensign seemed to internalize this, giving it a few moments to sink in, before turning away from her again.

Kel: Its amazing we still have a future isn’t I? I suppose if nothing else we should be grateful for that.

Gila wrung her hands.

Sadar: The Wheel of the Universe turned, and we persevered, as all life must in the face of chaos. Now, we need to make sense of the world we’ve come into.

A needlessly philosophical take, probably, and not at all logical, but to her, it made a certain kind of sense.

Kel: I don’t suppose you know if there’s anything that needs doing around the ship do you?  Leave is all well and good but after what happened I’d like to try and do something productive. Get my mind off of…..things.

Gila smiled.

Sadar: I have multiple PADDs’ worth of tasks and few hands. And I know Earth Spacedock’s rebuilding efforts have been slow going. If you’re up for it, I’ll have some suggestions sent to your terminal within the hour.

The Ensign nodded, running his hands through his hair with something resembling a renewed sense of direction.

Kel: Thank you lieutenant. I….I appreciate all your help. It means a lot. I know it might not seem like much but trust me, it is.

The gratitude caught Gila off-guard, causing her to shuffle slightly in place.

Sadar: Oh, uhh... Y-You’re welcome, Ensign. ::clears throat:: W-Well, I’ll, uhh. ::turns about towards the door, before thinking the better of it.:: And Ensign? ::looks back:: Make sure to stop by Sickbay. Doctor’s orders.

And thus, with a shaky smile, Gila left behind the Ensign’s quarters. Her nerves were frayed and her mind instantly started analyzing the encounter, identifying several thousand things that she did that was unseemly for a senior officer - far too many stutters, unseemly body language, a lackluster performance in terms of inspiring hope - and yet, all-in-all, it could’ve gone a lot worse.

END SCENE FOR GILA SADAR

((Thanks for the scene, Ensign ^^

I’ve left it open for you to have Kel head to Sickbay for a physical check-up (Feel free to tag either me or Cmdr. Adea in for that).

For counseling sessions, you could either tag in Cmdr. Adea’s PNPC Jashkaa, or await Gnai’s PNPC Counselor to drop first.

Since you’re our only PC Security officer currently on board, you could also conduct some security clearance interviews, ensuring that no Changelings remain onboard ;) Trust NO ONE. But also remember to get some Rest and Relaxation in!

Jump right into shoreleave and tag away :D ))
