((Unknown Monastery? - Callis 1))

((OOC: I am skipping ahead to the more recent set of tags, just so I can stay caught up and not have to throw out a multi-part sim. Thanks for everyone being patient with me while I am recovering!))

Whatever creatures had graced the group with their presence, weren’t making things easy. Charlotte and Alex seemed to be having some unfortunate telepathic reactions to– whatever– was on the other side of the doors.

Storm: ::Holding her head in both of her palms:: They’re here. ::Pointing at her head.:: Here!

MacKenzie held onto Storm and whispered to her.

MacKenzie: ::whispering:: You have to be quiet.

Another growl, this time lower and had a shift to its tone. Charlotte knew why Alex was struggling. The amount of pain and pressure inside her head made her want to vomit. Instead of panicking and allowing the feelings to take over, she focused in on one mind at a time. Storm’s had been all over the place. Frantic and panicked. MacKenzie’s was inherently more calm, but there was an underlying stress that made Charlotte’s skin crawl. Cole’s mind was alert, focused and honed into her training. That is where Charlotte tried to stay.

MacKenzie:  Are they telepathic? Is that what triggered them?

Cole: ::quiet, steady:: If they can sense us like that… firelight might already be a beacon.

Nat’s thoughts matched her words, and that brought a silent comfort to Charlotte. When someone's thoughts coincided with their words, it made them trustworthy. Which was a big reason she tried so hard to stay far away from the minds of others. It usually ended up in being hurt.

Storm: ::in a barely audible whisper only MacKenzie could hear:: Not … telepathic … sense … its … use.

Charlotte heard. After the growly creatures outside came around with whatever they were doing, fully decimated her mental barriers. She was hearing everything whether she wanted to or not.

Brexis: ::Quietly:: Whatever those things are. Telepathic or ::waving her hands around:: whatever. They are really doing a number on my senses… Seems like they are on Alex’s too.

MacKenzie pointed, tugged on her ear then raised her arms in question.

MacKenzie: ::mouthing:: Can you hear them?

Charlotte was trying to think of a quiet way to say she couldn’t hear them, but she could feel them. But the thought was short lived as Alex began to make awful noises. They sounded close to vomit, so she turned away. As she tried to focus on anything else, a thunderous impact slammed into the door. Sending Cole flying backwards. She stared at the door as it bowed inwards.

Cole: ::hoarse, forcing the words out:: Door’s holding… for now!

The knife was now out of her pocket and in her hand. Ready to fight if the growly folks made their way in.

With everything she could muster up, Charlotte closed her eyes and faced the door. Sending out a wave of thoughts. Not words, but a growl. It was a vain attempt, but she had to try something.

Cole: ::breathing hard:: They’re strong… but they’re not committing. Not yet.

Another growl came. Lower, less menacing. Perhaps further away.

Storm: ::in a whisper:: I’ve given birth without pain medicine. That was less painful than this was by at least a factor of ten.

MacKenzie: What happened?

Brexis: ::Quiet and a bit confused:: I don’t know… But I growled at them…

She wasn’t completely sure if it helped. Her mind growls couldn’t have been that menacing by any means.

Her soft words were followed up by another hit to the door. Not as hard as before. With a small wince and a shrug, she used her senses to growl toward the door again.

Cole: ::grim realization dawning:: They’re learning.

Storm had managed to get herself upright.

Storm: ::in a Whisper:: I think they’re gone. Maybe they don’t think they can get in.

MacKenzie: Let’s hope…

Brexis: ::Mostly to herself:: Maybe I scared them.

Alex had taken a step in Cole’s direction, but she hesitated. Charlotte's eyes flashed to Nat, as her thoughts weren’t coming through as strongly as they were before. Something was wrong.

Cole: ::thought, distant:: That breath… wasn’t a herbivore’s.

The thoughts went dark. Along with Cole as she stumbled to the floor. MacKenzie moved to Natasha’s side, trying to keep her sat upright.

Storm: ::Slightly above a whisper:: Either our friends have retreated for the time being, or a new friend is joining them.

MacKenzie: Let’s hope the former. They appear to be triggered by telepathy…

Brexis: It’s possible. It sounds kind of crazy, but I growled at them. That’s when they backed off. Maybe we just have to let them know we are bigger and scarier than them.

Charlotte knelt down next to Cole, just giving some kind of presence near her. To let her know she was there.

Storm: I would wager that the people on this planet were telepathic. If these creatures could immobilize the occupants that way, they would be easy prey.

MacKenzie: That’s certainly one explanation. I’d find it hard to believe that the idol we found doesn’t belong to them. Fortunately , some of us aren’t telepathic.

With a shake of her head, Charlotte sighed.

Brexis: How lucky for you…

Her words came out colder and a bit more harsh than she meant. It wasn’t often that being a telepath worked in her favor.

Cole: Response

Storm: That fact alone, might give at least some of our group an advantage. Hopefully, if we ::Looking over at Brexis:: don’t use telepathy, we won’t be as easy a target.

MacKenzie: Agreed. The other problem is that they know we’re here… Is the door going to be secure enough for the night in case they come back, or should we try to find other shelter?

Her hand rubbed the back of her neck, attempting to ease some of the tension that had been building there since crashing onto this gods forsaken planet.

Brexis: It’s hard not to use my telepathy when those creatures make it painful, but I’ll do my best. As for shelter… ::pointing to the fire:: I don’t think we can move that very easily. Staging here might be best.

Cole: Response

Alex had walked towards the door, inspecting it.

Storm: The door’s still mostly intact, but I don’t know if it can survive another assault of that level… ::Her voice trailed off, and she pivoted around on the balls of her feet to face Brexis and MacKenzie:: As hard as that door was to close - and now with it skewed on its hinges, has anyone given any thought to how we get OUT of this building?

MacKenzie: I’m hoping we won’t need to be here very long beforeStarfleet sends a rescue party… Hopefully leaving becomes tomorrow’s problem.

Charlotte stayed close to Nat, occasionally squeezing her hand, trying to get her back from what was hopefully just an adrenaline crash and not something worse.

Brexis: We’ve got to keep ourselves going until that help arrives.

Cole/Storm: Response

MacKenzie: I think we should prioritize keeping the fire going and trying to get some sleep. We should be able to use the fire as a weapon in case they come back.

Charlotte gave Natasha’s hand another small squeeze and moved towards the fire.

Brexis: I will work on keeping it going. As it is right now, I don’t feel them close. So maybe we are in luck?

Cole/Storm: Response

As she kicked at the fire with the tip of her boot, she felt a small flicker of something coming from Natasha.

((OOC: I spoke with Cole’s writer about her level of consciousness at this time.))

MacKenzie: Maybe they’re nocturnal? If so, it might be easier to try to find food and potentially better shelter tomorrow…

Brexis: Daylight is safer either way. ::pointing to Cole:: I think she’s comin’ around.

Cole/Storm/MacKenzie: Response

She knelt back down next to Natasha and nudged her a little bit.

Brexis: You alright?

Cole/Storm/MacKenzie: Response

Charlotte pointed between the fire and Cole a couple times.

Brexis: Maybe you should get closer to the fire. ::beat:: But you know. Don’t fall in it or anything like that.

Cole/Storm/MacKenzie: Response
