(( Launch Bay - Afalqi Project Launch Control - Meranuge IV ))
It was anxiety-inducing work, nearly causing political incidents. It wasn’t something that D’tin intended to attempt, or wanted to participate in again, Silveira’s best efforts notwithstanding. Right now she just wanted to get the data and be ready to present it in an organized manner.
Breys: Lt. Commander, Sir. How goes that data search?
The captain spoke up first, and the words brought relief to the worrisome Ensign.
MacKenzie: Let me see if I can run some interference.
As she left the room, Silveira quietly encouraged Breys.
Silveira: We can do this Ensign. Breath, calm and focus. Now join in and let's crack this.
There was a nearby console that seemed to link into the one that Silveira was working on. The work seemed simple, log in and pair the consoles, and the effort should be cut nearly in half. As D’tin pushed through to the console pairing sequence everything was going perfectly, until it wasn’t.
Breys: The consoles won’t pair without an authentication code, we don’t have time to bypass it right now either.
Silveira tilted his head and looked confused at Breys.
Silveira: Really?… Ok no time for a long explanation, show me quickly and tell me what to do.
Breys: I’m not an engineer, so let’s try doing this a different way. Plasma conduits show up on internal sensors even through the shielding, pull up the internal sensor data for high energy particles during the last test. They shouldn’t have blocked a non-critical scan like that.
While Silveira worked she choked on perfectly fine air. It took until the steps were uncomfortably close for the hazy map of energy to show in front of them.
Breys: Look! There! That line shows much more plasma flow than the others, and it feeds into some kind of strange particle emitter in this room here. ::she pauses:: Those streaks are consistent with tachyon emissions, I’d need to take a closer look to confirm, but we could be looking at a stolen cloaking device.
MacKenzie: Commander, Ensign, were you able to uncover anything useful?
Siveira nodded
Silveira: Yes we have. Someone didn’t updated all the details of the last tests.
Then he turned to Breys and nodded again, whispering so that only she could hear him.
Silveira: Good job, now let’s show what we found. Focus and calm, your a Starfleet officer.
All she could do is give a half smile and take a deep breath.
Breys: First we should probably mention we found signs of Klingons accessing the data rod you gave us. The rod shows signs of having been run through encryption techniques that no one else in the region uses, confirmed with a tricorder scan.
Jetripar then crashed into a stool, seeming to have no fight left.
K'Wara: Guess we found out who that intruder is then. ::glances to Jetripar:: Want to hazard a guess how a Klingon got into your facility without being spotted?
Jetripar: ::through gritted teeth:: I’m sure I don’t know.
Silveira: Interesting, as some results we found. The Afalqi packs a little too much power it seems.
oO At this point we can’t cause a diplomatic incident, Jetripar’s career is over. Oo
MacKenzie: If you don't know, then certainly we'll need to piece together the events and get a more definitive picture. I think my crewmembers might be able to shed a little light.
Breys: The data shows that the most recent test experienced a tenfold jump in power output from the warp core of the Afalqi. It’s just a theory, but I believe whoever did this may have used the increased efficiency of the dilithium interaction to boost the power output at the cost of the crystal’s integrity.
K’Wara: ::whistles:: You have been busy. So, have you found out where all that power led?
Silveira: Ensign Breys here gave me a helping hand with that.
MacKenzie: Give us the short version, Ensign.
Breys realized she had spilled out words every chance she had been given in the last five minutes.
oO I’m still not going to be the one to claim they stole a cloaking device. Oo
Breys: We tracked the power output using… short version. The power flows to a room located near main engineering, we couldn’t find specifications on the part, but it was outputting high energy particles consistent with Tachyon particles.
Jetripar: I’m sorry to interrupt, but a Klingon? What interest could the Klingons have here?
Either Jetripar knew nothing about cloaking devices, or he was trying to look like he didn’t.
Silveira: If I remember correctly Da’al and Klingons are exactly best buddies.
D’tin didn’t know how to say anything without saying everything.
K’Wara: Response
Jetripar: Is it possible that Havun could have been influenced?
Silveira shrugged, MacKenzie seemed to blink it off.
Silveira: Anything is possible.
MacKenzie: Perhaps found themselves as an unwilling participant... or even a co-conspirator. The sabotage of other areas of the facility certainly point to the deliberate nature of this crime. I think the former possibility is far less likely.
Breys: The information definitely points to someone in the facility working to make this happen.
K’Wara: Response
Jetripar shook his head.
Jetripar: What a foolish man, allowing himself to be caught up in this. And taking me with him.
Then Silveira gave a wide gesture to the console.
Silveira: I admit I was reticent at first, but it had to be someone really high in clearance to be able to do that.
MacKenzie: Tread carefully, Commander...
All D’tin could do was wince in preparation.
K’Wara/Jetripar: Response
Silveira: I would ask one thing that could be helpful Secretary, but I would understand if you deny it…
oO Here it comes. Oo
K’Wara/Jetripar: Response
Silveira: If you give us access to the Afalqi schematics, load out… Everything would be very helpful. Particularly the engine weapons and cloaking device…
MacKenzie: Mister Secretary, I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist that Commander Silveira is correct and we're going to need not only access to the schematics, but unrestricted access to personnel files and anything else my officers deem necessary as we uncover more clues and a potential motive in this investigation.
K’Wara/Jetripar: Response
Yet again, this was a moment when Ensigns stayed quiet. She’d have her turn.
The captain shook her head, this wasn’t an issue she would budge on.
MacKenzie: Mister Secretary, either you can give us the information and access we require or I'll be forced to go to the Prime Minister and demand it myself. I might also add that I find your deflective nature deeply concerning and I'm inclined to suggest to my officers that we might hold you for questioning. ...Now, are you going to give us access to what we need, or are we going to have to do this the hard way?
Breys: ::quietly to K’Wara:: Are we allowed to hold him like that?
K’Wara/Silveira/Jetripar: Response
Mackenzie gave small, stark nods to each portion of the response.
MacKenzie: I thought you might. (beat) ::to the others:: Now is the time to make your requests. What do you need access to, and what other information do you need?
There was a quiet moment, somehow, D’tin was going first.
K’Wara/Silveira/Jetripar: Response
Breys: Mister Secretary, thank you for your time and cooperation.
K’Wara/Silveira/Jetripar/Mackenzie: Response
oO Was that too formal?Oo
Breys: The high energy particle sensor readouts, both internal and external, for the final test of the Afalqi are the most important thing I get my hands on, we might be able to use that data to track it. I’ll also need material composition data for the ship to calculate any interference it may cause with sensors.
K’Wara/Silveira/Jetripar/Mackenzie:
Breys: I think if we can find the exact type of particle the cl- ::pause:: unknown device generates we could trace the decay trail left in its wake.
oO Yes, even if it’s a cloaking device. Oo
K’Wara/Silveira/Jetripar/Mackenzie:
Breys stepped back, signalling she had asked all she could think of at the moment.
Breys: ::to Silveira:: I wish Jovenan was here instead, I’m in over my head.
Silveira: Response
