Richards: Well. ::Wiping sweat off her forehead:: What did you think?

The time the captain sat and stared was interminable. But finally, she stood. And clapped. Was that.. genuine?

RIchards: I expect nothing less Captain…

Jaran: Sir, of course, sir.

MacKenzie: Oh, that was magnificent. I haven't seen or heard anything like that before. And to think you did it all for me.

Jira sighed deeply and risked trying to make eye contact with Sam. A little unspoken "How do you think we did?"

Richards: Response

Jira used the distraction of taking the belaklavion back to the replicator to mull over the circumstances. Despite what was possibly among the most bizarre situations to occur in this sickbay, they were thinking more and more about how much they enjoyed playing again. And the thought of their grandfather was certainly unexpected. Maybe they'll keep this up. But not with this one.

Jira put the instrument back in the replicator and watched it return to its constituent particles. The raised voices from behind them brought them out of the reverie, however, and they turned around quickly.

MacKenzie: And who taught you to play the belaklavion, Ensign?!

oO Oh you just had to ask that right now, didn't you? Oo

Jaran: My grandfather, sir. Raka-ja ut shala morala. He thought it was important for every child to learn an instrument. I guess, technically, I did learn something.

Richards: Response

The captain smiled and nodded. A sniffle, too. Was she really that touched by their awful charade?

MacKenzie: As spectacular as that was, I'm sure you ::nodding:: have to get back to the lab, and I know that Lieutenant Morgan has no doubt assigned something to keep Ensign Jaran busy... And I have a meeting with Commander Munro. You'd both better get back to work. Thank you for such a wonderful surprise!

The captain turned on her heel and walked out the door with those final words, and Jira let out the breath they didn't realise they'd been holding.

Jaran: ::breathlessly:: Sam, that was... what was that?

Richards: Response

Jira paced with nervous energy. This was really not the first impression they'd wanted to make with the captain, but it had happened. They had to just roll with it.

Jaran: Finish your chaos. I'll leave you to it. Just leave me out of it when Dr. Morgan inevitably pops his top.

Richards: Response

Jira's shift was over anyway. They went about tidying their station while Sam... did whatever Sam did, and walked to the door.

Jaran: Oh! And Miss Richards. If you ever want to put on another show, let me know.

Richards: Response

Jira smiled and walked out of sickbay.

oO What a strange shift. Oo

(( Deck Five, Sector Three, Compartment Eleven - USS Artemis-A ))

Their quarters were empty when Jira arrived, for which they were grateful. They sat down at the desk and woke up the console facing them.

Jaran: =/\= Computer, begin recording a subspace message to Jaran Antos and Jaran Tira. =/\=

Jaran: =/\= Hi, mom. Hi, dad. I just wanted to check in and make sure everything was going well. I haven't heard from Spyria in a few weeks. Is she ok? Also, I was wondering. Do you still have my old belaklavion? =/\=
