((Elysium Mezzanine, Deck 5 - USS Artemis))
Solas and Salkath fell into a comfortable silence while the commander planned his move. Finally, he made his move, and the board morphed into an irregular polyhedron.
Kel: What about you sir? Any engineering projects you think could use some more muscle. Either to guard with or use to lift those heavy objects off the tall shelves?
Salkath: You may jest, but I do have a personal request. Do you know the science officer, Lieutenant Gnai? I just assisted it with a replacement suit for navigating while on duty. Should it come to the Security center with a request for assistance, phaser or CQC certification perhaps, then I would consider it a boon if you saw to it personally.
Solas nodded.
Kel: Very good sir. You must get a lot of practice.
Salkath: Not as much as one would prefer. Especially since my transfer aboard the Artemis. In fact, you are my first opponent in many months.
Solas eyed the board carefully, trying to balance between his player’s instinct. 'Winging it' was an acceptable strategy in Kal-toh, but it was rarely effective. But taking your time, using your experience? That could win you a game or two. With a slight smile, he placed his piece on the board, and it shifted into a perfect, round shape. His smile broadened.
Kel: Kal-toh.
Salkath: Your skill in the game is notable. No need for modesty, you bested me fair and square. Very acceptable game, Ensign.
Solas signed and leaned back in his seat, wiping some sweat from his brow, it had been a rough game.
Kel: I got lucky. You made a mistake, I caught it.
Salkath: I am still off-duty for a few more hours, and plan to remain here for a while longer. Would you consider a rematch?
Solas shrugged and smiled, then pressed down at a point on the board that pieces came undone. Then he smiled at the Commander.
Kel: Best two out of three sir?
The commander nodded and the two of them began to reset the board.
Salkath: Response
Solas, as the victor, made the first move, placing his piece left of center. The board shifted. It wasn’t a bad move but it wasn’t a great one either, but that was always the risk you carried when making an opening move. Too many possibilities.
Kel: Its a shame shore leave is coming to an end, sir. I feel like I was finally starting to relax.
Salkath: Response
((OOC: So I didn’t see that I’d gotten this on Sunday and then was too busy Monday and Tuesday to check, sorry!!))
