(( Cockpit of the USS Acheron - Ebers System, Balancar Sector, Alpha Quadrant ))
From one of the outermost sections of Luxasi station, a stream of large debris - not quite 'spacerocks', but large hulking pieces of testing material large enough to count for small meteoroids - was released into space, and the kinetic force from their ejection kept them going towards the Ebers Rift's gravitational pull.
Vailani: First set of debris heading on a trajectory to the rift. Targeting debris field.
Cole: Let's get you closer. ::tapping the controls
Seeing Lieutenant Vailani highlight a section of debris, Natasha plotted a path for the runabout so Lieutenant Storm could scoop her ‘Space rocks’.
Storm: Let’s start them off easy.
K'Wara: Response
Vailani: Target locked. Over to you Lieutenant.
Storm: Got it!
Natasha watched as Lieutenant Storm used the tractor beam to throw the debris at the station.
Cole: Nice throw, wonder if it’ll be called a hailstorm maneuver someday. ::offering a coy smile::
There that feeling was again, something nagging at her, now in the back of her mind. She glanced from the sensors towards the rift, but didn’t get the impression that it was giving her the feeling of a shoe about to drop.
Storm: Hey! I like it. Feel free to patent it.
K'Wara: Response
Vailani: Stations defenses are activating.
The debris field was taken out surprisingly fast for a research station. Check that off their list.
Vailani: Defenses have a new target.
Natasha turned her head slightly at that while maintaining focus fully in front of them.
Vailani: They've targeted the Acheron.
Cole: ::sigh:: of course they are. ::beat:: Hold onto something.
Natasha had to think fast as the station's weapons glowed hot as they started firing at them. She didn’t think, or hesitate and worked the controls taking the runabout into the equivalent of a corkscrew nosedive as she brought their ‘belly’ to bear towards the station she whipped the runabout controls bringing the nose up aiming them away from the station.
Cole: Storm, can you or Vailani project their weapons area of attack and range onto the display? I’d prefer not to have to try running that mental math while flying for our lives.
Storm: On it. Here’s where the computer thinks they will likely fire.
Several red areas appeared on the HUD in front of her.
Storm: And here’s the range of its weapons.
A moment later a line appeared surrounding the station overlaying the HUD.
Cole: oO I can work with this. Oo
Storm: I suggest calling the station to see what’s going on.
Vailani/K'Wara: Response
Alerts continued to sound as the station began peppering their area with weapons fire. Natasha did her best to keep them moving, as the asked for information started to display in front of her.
Cole: Thanks, I can keep us moving, but does anyone have any ideas why they're firing at us?
Storm: I can target their weapons, but that would leave them defenseless against the rift’s debris.
Vailani/K'Wara: Response
Natasha did her best to keep them out of range and in the shifting dead pockets of their defenses. Suddenly the runabout was clipped by amore targeted attack.
Cole: Either their automated defenses are getting smarter, or someone is actively targeting us. ::forcing the Acheron towards the port sharply::
Storm: Any chance we could actually land on the space station, where they couldn’t shoot us? I could grab some of the debris with the tractor beam and toss them ahead of us, so as to keep us out of their direct fire as we approach.
Natasha looked over the updated info in front of her, focused on working out a path in her head.
Cole: Vailani, is airlock A9 still open?
K’Wara/Vailani: Response
Storm: I’m going to begin grabbing other pieces of debris and flinging it in their direction to hopefully keep them busy.
Natasha kept the shuttle moving, going off instinct and a bit of impulsiveness. Maneuvering the shuttle into a counterclockwise barrel roll and turning, taking them back towards the station.
K’Wara/Vailan: Response
Storm: Three large pieces of debris away.
K’Wara/Vailan: Response
Storm: Cole, as it targets the second-to-last piece of debris, we may be able to make a break for it.
Cole: It’s like you read my mind.
Natasha moved the shuttle into the ‘shadow’ of the second closest chunk, as one of the chunks that Alex had flung at the station exploded, rocking the shuttle.
Cole: oO Hold it together. Oo
Natasha narrowed her focus and kept it on the second chunk of debris.
K’Wara/Vailan: Response
As the second chunk exploded, Natasha slammed the thrusters to maximum, sending the Acheron streaking past the third fragment as if it were standing still. She rolled the ship in front of it, baiting the station’s targeting sensors into locking onto the larger debris instead.
The ruse worked. A barrage of crimson lances tore through the void, shredding the drifting mass.
Cole: oO Gotcha. Oo
She navigated the Acheron through the newly made debris field heading towards the station. Taking them towards the Station’s airlocks.
Storm/K’Wara/Vailan: Response
Cole: That’s one problem solved.
Storm/K’Wara/Vailan: Response
