(( Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
MacKenzie sat behind her desk in the Artemis ready room, joined by the
two officers with whom she’d served longer than any other. Together, Nicholotti,
Adea, and MacKenzie had been through more than their fair share of trials.
While duty had keep them apart for a substantial amount of time, having
Nicholotti back for this mission had a very “getting the band back together”
feel to it. With tensions now lower, the ship was on its way to Risa and the
trio had an opportunity to relax and commiserate over their time together,
current and former.
MacKenzie: I think the last time I was here was right after the Resolution…
I remember Vitor’s court martial after biting that man’s neck. ::closing her
eyes and shaking her head:: Can you even imagine?
Genkos’
forefinger came up to rest against his temple as he leaned against one elbow.
Adea: I try not to… But he’s grown since then. I hope.
Nicholotti: I think he has, at least a little.
MacKenzie cocked her head quickly.
MacKenzie: They all have. Though, that any one of them would have
thought I would have let them keep the Bird of Prey means I still have some
work ahead of me…
She chuckled.
Adea: Yyyyyess… And you’re sure
you want Talos back in the chair? ::he raised up a placative palm:: I kid -
he’s highly competent, and ::he fingered his collar distastefully:: red never
suited me anyway.
Nicholotti: You always did look
better in blue, but don't say you aren't suited for red. You're a damn good
command officer.
Addison nodded slowly. Genkos had flexed in and out of the role more times than
she’d cared to admit, including being the first XO of the Artemis.
To say that he wasn’t good at the job would have been an absolute
mischaracterization. Singularly, he’d brought more to the ship than any of the others,
and she’d always valued his approach to the job.
MacKenzie: ::pointing to Nicholotti:: She’s right, you know.
Genkos ran a hand through his hair as he looked between them.
Adea: Well, we’ve done well, the crew’ve done well… Sapphire wine anyone?
Kali laughed and shook her head. MacKenzie raised a finger to indicate she’d take one.
Nicholotti: Of course...::To Addison.:: Are we officially on leave, captain?
MacKenzie: Yes. Risa seemed an appropriate
place, given the last mission and its relation to our history.
A smile spread on Nicholotti’s face.
Nicholotti: How long till we arrive?
MacKenzie: Not too long, should be just over a day now.
Adea: ::looking over at Kalianna:: Long enough time?
Addison smiled slightly. It was a loaded question: there was never enough time for loved ones, especially in a profession where duty often had loved ones separated by a literal galaxy. Still, she hoped that by having Kalianna here at least for a short while, that she and Genkos would be able to spend some much-earned time together.
Nicholotti: Just enough time to see the ship. I never did get a tour when they shipped me off to the Tholian border after all...
Genkos pushed down on his cane as he stood up, his other hand still clutching at Kalianna’s. Addison shook her head at the comment – their reassignment had come far faster than any of them would have liked.
Adea: Well then, a glass of wine and a tour? You can see all the
amazing sights… ::he pointed with his cane at the wall behind Addison’s head::
That used to be a hole.
Addison grimaced slightly, looking down at her desk. The standard Starfleet-issue
metal desk was a far cry from the beautiful mahogany desk that had been lost to
the vacuum of space…
MacKenzie: What a place to start.
Nicholotti: Response
Genkos replicated three glasses of the rich, blue liquid and handed them out.
Adea: Thankfully we’re mercifully devoid of any holographic puppets or
cowboys, which I’m sure you’re thrilled by, Kalianna.
Addison suppressed a smirk.
MacKenzie: We should have known something was wrong with those Klingons
much sooner. Remember the one that used to refer to us as milk-drinkers?
Nicholotti/Adea: Response
MacKenzie moved from behind her desk and waved her arm as she led them out of
the ready room.
MacKenzie: Come on. A lot of ground to cover.
(( Elysium – Deck 6, USS Artemis ))
Addison led the pair through several of the upper decks, taking
time to show off the sensor pod and several of the large hubs, like the
Operations Center on Deck 5. Otherwise, there wasn’t much of note to be seen so
far – there were only so many interesting things one could say about a
standard-issue Starfleet holodeck, after all. The Elysium, however, was a different
story.
MacKenzie:
…and this is our ship’s lounge, the Elysium. It’s a far warmer
atmosphere than the standard mess hall up on deck 3.
Adea/Nicholotti: Response
Tag, and TBC!
