The sounds of screech over the metal sounded close. Ollie froze for a second. No. Not close to them. Close to Engineering... To Imril.

MacKenzie: ::narrowing her eyes as she listened to the sound:: I believe they’ve breached the hull…

Brexis’ words brought the lieutenant back to reality.

Brexis: ::To Bergmen:: Hey. Is it this big hunk of ::gesturing vaguely while squinting her eyes:: whatever this is.

Bergmen’s glance shifted from the ladder up to the machine Brexis mentioned, and he nodded.

Bergmen: Yes. Yes, ma’am ::sighs:: But it looks like it did go through an emergency shutdown.

He bit his lip, still fighting the urge to just run, climb up to Imril... But then he moved forward to the machine and hit its touchscreen to wake it up.

oO No, I can help him by getting this running. The force field will protect him, not me being maimed… Oo

The generator started humming silently, and the screen woke to life.

oO Good. That’s good. The generator has enough fuel to restart. Now what? Ollie, think. Oo

Breys: Response

Munro: I think that’s our cue to get a move on :: shouts down to Bergman and Brexis :: We’ll definitely need those batteries for the graviton emitters!

Brexis: ::Yelling back:: We are working on it!

Silent and fixed at the screen, Bergmen was switching off all the software safeties in the safety menu to speed up the warming process as the lights started flickering again.

Breys: Response

Munro: :: sighs :: The power flow isn’t consistent enough. One of the conduits must have failed. We’re gonna have to restore that first.

The captain moved to the panel and began inputting commands.

MacKenzie: I’m going to see what I can do about trying to shunt power. You keep working on the forcefields.

Brexis: Ollie, I’m going to be honest. Aside from kicking this thing, I have no clue how to get it going.

Ollie gestured for Brexis to give him some space. So far, this was work for one. And based on what she just said, it stayed as work for one.

Bergmen: ::smiles:: Just let me work. I will tell you when you will be needed.

Breys/Munro: Response

MacKenzie: ::shaking her head:: I don’t know why this isn't working. ::shouting:: Any luck with a generator?

Brexis did only the one thing she could and communicated their progress. Or given the Bergmen’s fixed and silent look at the generator as he continued pressing the screen and touching the still low-humming generator, the lack of.

Brexis: ::Yelling back to the captain:: We are trying!

Bergmen: ::whispers as he concentrate:: Just a second, Lieutenant. This is a delicate process.

Breys/Munro: Response

MacKenzie: Whatever we’re going to do, we’d better do it fast.

oO Screw this. Oo

Ollie removed the cover beneath the screen and grasped all the injector hard fuses to pull them out. With a soft click of fuses, the screen above flashed at the same moment Brexis kicked the generator. Without anything preventing the injectors from opening fully, the matter flowed into the cold, unwarmed generator, which roared to life at full strength, maybe a little more.

Brexis: ::Shouting at no one in particular:: I kicked it! It’s turning on!

Bergmen: ::whispers to Brexis:: Really?

Breys/Munro/MacKenzie: Response

Brexis shrugged.

Brexis: Sometimes things just need kicking to work right. Percussive maintenance is what I think they call it.

Yeah, she was right - a credit to her effort should be shared. And who knows, maybe that kick really helped that much, Bergmen recognized as he winked at Brexis.

Bergmen: ::winks to Brexis and smile:: Please… Don’t do that, ma’am, next time. Ok?

Following his own advice, he straightened up to the display and dismissed three warnings before returning the generator's performance curve to safe parameters. And then he deleted those warnings from the log.

Yeah, there was no need for anyone to know that he had nearly melted the generator…

Breys/Munro/MacKenzie: Response

Brexis: The batteries should be charging now. ::beat, then shouting:: The batteries should be charging now!

Ollie clicked back the fuses and closed the cover. Flow was stable. They did it.

Bergmen: ::shouting:: Where do you need us captain?

Breys/Munro/MacKenzie: Response

But the excitement didn't last long. The sounds of scratching and howling grew closer. Brexis, hearing the noises, bent over and held her head in her hands.

Brexis: ::Pained:: They are getting closer!

Ollie jumped immediately in closer, gently taking her by the shoulders, and bent down to meet her gaze.

Bergmen: Lieutenant, it’s ok. They are not here. Listen to the sound of my voice. Breath. I need you, Lieutenant. I need your help. ::calmly:: It’s gonna be ok. Breath.

Breys/Munro/MacKenzie: Response

Ollie glanced back and gestured to others he understood before he looked back to Brexis.

Bergmen: ::calmly:: Good. Good. In and out. Let it all out. I will be right back, ok?

He let her shoulders go as he glanced at the nearby screen. A few steps.

oO It’s gonna be okay. Oo

He stepped closer to the screen and started the procedure.

Breys/Munro/MacKenzie/Brexis: Response

Bergmen: ::shouts:: All systems… (beat) Most systems show green! The important one! Ready anytime you are!

Breys/Munro/MacKenzie/Brexis: Response
