((USS Artemis, Deck 2,Holodeck 1))Imril's lunch break had come later than normal, owing to a ship-wide inspection of the EPS grid which had started lagging behind. Walking quickly to make up for lost time, they cut their way down a corridor in the way to a turbolift which could deliver them to somewhere they could eat and sit down for a while.
Their grumbling stomach took a back-seat to curiosity, though, when they heard a caphochany of bleeps and bloops and dingalings coming from a direction which would take them away from the lifts. They followed the noise to an open holodeck door. The room beyond was filled with rows of colorful machines, each one promising thrills and challenges of all sorts. From every screen came a low-res explosion of action and high scores, the lure of extra lives to be earned. The looping display was clearly intended to grab at the attention of anyone who passed by. There was something immediately familiar to the young engineer about it all. A call-back to one of their excursions beyond the grounds of Starfleet Academy.
Imril: .oO(Reminds me of that place I saw in Las Vegas. 1980s: The Experience.)Oo.
Only there, the 'arcade' was but a small part of a space headlined by a series of walk-through shows put on by actors and holoscreens, set off to the side of themed restaurants and gift shops manned by costumed staff. While here, the collection of pixelated playthings was very much the main attraction.
The open door, and all the hooting and hollering from the games, seemed like a clear enough invitation. But leaving the holodeck door open could just as easily have been an oversight on the part of its current occupant(s). A possible privacy violation that Imril wasn't keen to get caught up in, especially after drawing Captain MacKenzie's ire on their first mission under her. There was an easy way to find out which it was, though, in the personage of the Chief Tactical Officer who was just then coming into view from around one of the cabinets. Imril knew his face from the time they had spent reviewing the
Artemis' senior staff on their orientation padd.
Imril: ::Straightening up in the presence of a superior officer:: Lt. Silveira, Sir. I don't think I've been able to introduce myself to you, yet. Ensign Imril, Engineering... Is this an 'open' sim?
