((Elysium, Deck 6, USS Artemis-A))
Never having set foot here before, the Betazoid’s eyes took in every part of it. Few bars had held her interest over the years, but this one, one aboard a starship no less, had a whole other air to it. Hues of jade brushed spans of pale gold that trimmed marbled countertops, with voices and bodies swarming the space between.
‘Like’ was a strong word to describe her feelings towards parties. Emotions and thoughts had always surged like tides at events like these, all blending together as synthehol loosened tongues and company sparked cocktails of emotion. Shuttered as her mind was, it was like loud thundering music just barely dampened by a wall.
Sierin had found herself with a table that had assembled itself, already the rounds of drinks had parsed through stories as she held a flute of champagne— a bubbly drink in her hand that she had only sipped from. The Betazoid perched herself on a tall, wiry stool, the table trimmed with that gold-coloured metal and eyes watchful of the officers that gathered around her. A slight smile on her face too, with an occasional polite laugh at a joke she didn’t find funny. She eyed them like a sparrow eyed a worm. Names came easy, some here were more than eager to introduce themselves. Ensign Alorna Antair, a short Deltan woman, judging by the lack of hair and the name, a science officer she had seen before. And a taller man simply named Gherann. Gold shouldered as he was, the Petty Officer seemed older, streaks of grey peppering his hair and short beard, with a brow that jutted forwards.
Shortly, the Captain got on stage, small wooden boxes had been handed out by the captain, ribbons to the members of the crew, even promotions to two of her newfound coworkers. Sierin applauded politely, clapping along with the crowd and even grabbing her own. She palmed the small wooden boxes, glancing at the ribbons with a closely studied eye. As applause died off, and the champagne dwindled in her flute, she made a move for a refill.
Approaching the bar, Sierin placed the glass and made her order. Watching the pointy-eared bartender pour the drink idly. The liquid was a pale gold that rose with a top of carbon-y cloud, it fizzed and bubbled, hissing quietly as orbs like spec-sized marbles hugged themselves to the sides of the flute. With a smaller motion, a little slice of halved strawberry was placed inside, sinking like a stone through that frothy bed.
Sierin turned as she heard a voice.
Jovenan: Doctor Ikaixar? Hi. Congratulations on your ribbons. They were very much deserved.
The Edo scientist zoned in on Sierin as she gave a gracious smile in reply. She knew precious little about Jovenan aside from having worked with her as a ‘medical reinforcement’ on their last mission. Sierin hadn’t even noticed her hair colour— a long head of wavy blonde.
Sierin took a moment to respond, raking her mind for a name that matched the face.
Ikaixar: Commander Jovenan, thank you. I’m glad I was a help in our last mission.
Jovenan: I’m sorry that I abandoned you in that facility like that, but seeing that you had so much better success afterwards, it was probably for the better.
Ikaixar: Oh— don’t worry. We all had jobs to do. Besides, Havun might’ve died if we stayed there any longer. And worse if you hadn't done what you needed to do.
She took a sip of her drink, coating her tongue with that fizzy bittersweetness that champagne was so well known for.
There was something slightly off. Sierin hadn’t known Jovenan long enough to pick apart her mannerisms, but even simply saying ‘hi’ felt like an unspoken apology. The Betazoid had seen some like that, and simply tried to keep her posture relaxed as she leaned herself against the bar, holding her drink by the reedy glass stem.
Jovenan: So, um, have you yet met many of your new colleagues?
Sierin smacked her lips lightly and stared with an expression that ruminated on the shelf of bottles nearby, very deliberately giving herself time to think and recall.
Ikaixar: A few— can’t say I know everyone’s names yet though. I think some will definitely need nametags. I must say though, a few are certainly an acquired taste.
Sierin did her best to take the small sting out of her comment with a soft chuckle.
Jovenan: Response?
Ikaixar: I have noticed that, is it normal for so many officers to spend shore leaves working?
Sierin took the break after her question, lifting her head as she took another small sip.
Jovenan: Response?
Ikaixar: Ah, I see. That does explain the ten stress headaches I've had to treat in sickbay this week alone.
Jovenan: Response?
