((Main Engineering, Deck 15 - USS Artemis-A))
Imril’s miniature integrity field generator project had reached a point where the holo-alcove offered by Chief Salkath some time ago had become useful. At this station, they stood before a holographic representation of a Zambean weather manipulation satellite. To which they had attached, at various angles, a handful of ‘emitters’ not much larger than a combadge. At this phase of the project, Imril was focused on refining how precisely the emitters could determine their positions relative to each other and the uneven surface they were attached to.
The issue at present was deciding how much additional communications and scanning gear to pack into the prototype devices while still maintaining the whole ‘mini’ vibe.
Gnai: Ensign Imril…? Are you here?
It was impossible to mistake the synthesized voice of Lieutenant Gnai for anyone else. They turned to the Galadoran and raised a hand.
Imril: Aye, Sir. Over here.
Gnai hurried over to the station that the ensign was working at.
Gnai: Hello… This hopes that this isn’t interrupting anything important…
Imril: Oh, this? It’s a long-term project. Nothing that can’t be set aside, as long as I keep busy.
Following the mission on the Meirashi planet, Imril had made good on their decision to read up on the bioluminescent body language of Galadorans. They were relatively sure that the flashing pattern Gnai gave as it bobbed in its tank was one of appreciation.
Gnai: Perfect… This would normally reach out to Commander Salkath for assistance, but given his absence, this presumed that you might be willing to help? This suit is in need of a bit of maintenance, as far as this can tell.
The ensign had not been doing much studying of Gnai’s gear. Or any, really. But a mech-suit was a mech-suit. I was all a matter of details.
Imril: I’m sure I can manage. If you don't mind sharing a bit of technical data?
Gnai: Oh, yes, this can share some of the information with you. ::reaching over to tap in a passcode to the files:: Here, hopefully that will make this easier?
Imril: Thanks.
Imril was quick to grab a fresh padd from the nearby supply of Engineering Pool devices to download the information onto. The Lieutenant depended on its suit to move among crewmates and interact with airy environs. In the wrong hands, such information could be very compromising. They could only imagine how the likes of Colonel Evreste might have tried to undermine Gnai’s suit in his efforts to gain the upper hand on everyone around him back on the Genesis planet.
A ‘loaner’ padd could simply be chucked into the replicator when the job was done. No chance of a better computer tech than Imril coming along and retrieving anything sensitive.
This abundance of caution prompted Imril’s next answer.
Imril: Perhaps we should move to a less crowded space? There’s a private work lab not too far from here.
Gnai: Response
Imril depowered the emitters and packed them into a secondary case before deactivating the hologram and tapping the console that cleared the alcove for a new user. Cases in hand, they led Gnai around a corner, moving the opposite side of the hallway Gnai had entered through.
One advantage they supposed Salkath would have brought to aiding Gnai was Vulcan ears; he might well have diagnosed problem areas in the suit just by listening to it move along this short walk. Imril would have to rely on other means.
Imril: Here we are.
The door they had stopped at opened up to a small room dominated by a circular railing. The railing itself was sided by a large control panel. The circle of space within provided plenty of room for both officers. Another control panel set within a shallow alcove bore an LCARS screen large enough to display images of the suit’s interior mechanics.
(OOC: Think Geordi’s VR probe lab from “Interface” with the rig that Geordi stood inside removed)
Gnai: Response
The ensign waved into the room, careful to close the door before initiating any part of the maintenance procedures.
Imril: Does your tank need to be removed from the suit before I get started on any repairs or cleanings? This room’s holo-equipped if it comes to that.
Gnai: Response
