(OOC: This sim will serve as the beginning of the end of our shore leave period. If we could wind down scenes by the end of next weekend [May 11 or so], we’ll be ready to jump into our next mission at that point!)

(( Beachside, Temtibi Lagoon, Risa ))

Despite having chosen a career that literally required to hop all over the galaxy, Addison MacKenzie didn’t consider herself a well-traveled person. Simply having traveled many places didn’t make oneself an expert on them, especially given that a Starfleet captain rarely got to actually experience many of them. As a result, she often found herself needing to research special places or events for the crew to come together.

In studying Risa, as well as having heard murmurs of the various shore leave shenanigans, the commanding officer of the Artemis had settled on Temtibi Lagoon as the scene for their end of shore leave awards gathering. According to her research, it never rained in the lagoon, the water was warm, the air was sweet, and there were nearby hot springs in case any of the crew wanted to partake. For their purposes, it was the perfect venue for the senior staff to come together, enjoy something to eat, and pursue whatever recreation they might want.

Addison, clad informally and uncharacteristically in a sleeveless violet sundress, was putting the finishing touches on the corner of the beach she’d staked out for the gathering. There were several portable tables and chairs positioned in a U shape, each covered with red and white colored tablecloths, and nearby several additional tables with mobile cooking surfaces had been positioned. Once the officers started arriving, they could fire up the grill pans and get the hamburgers and bratwurst prepared. Near the site, a net had been erected for those wishing to participate in a sport humans called “volleyball,” and there was plenty of other beachfront nearby for those wanting to come up with games of their own design.

(OOC: Feel free to start your characters’ arrival and introduction to the scene here. I’m happy to backsim any details before and after the awards, but I want to skip ahead to the bulk content of the awards here.)

With the senior staff and Commodore Nicholotti gathered and seated at the carefully constructed tables, Addison made her way to the mouth of the U-shape, where several small boxes had been placed. When it was quiet, she started in.

MacKenzie: I know that we sometimes have a habit of making the end of shore leave a rather formal occasion, but I thought this would be a nice opportunity for us to come together and enjoy some recreation in this great place before we get back to work.

She smiled and nodded.

MacKenzie: Before I begin, I want to welcome the newest members of our crew, Sam Richards, Ensign Tho’Bi, and a big welcome back to our new Chief of Operations, Lieutenant Vailani.

Richards/Tho’Bi/Vailani: Responses

She picked up one of the boxes from the table.

MacKenzie: And, to officially welcome him, I have the pleasure of officially awarding the Starfleet Academy Graduate Ribbon to Ensign Tho’Bi. Welcome aboard, Ensign.

She passed the box containing the ribbon down in Tho’Bi’s direction.

Tho’Bi: Response

MacKenzie: This past mission was complex. For those of us who served on the Resolution, this forced us to directly confront some former foes, face new realities about those whom we thought were allies, and come to terms with some old demons. It wasn’t easy for any of us, for many reasons. Still, I continue to be proud of the way this crew handles unforeseen issues with the professionalism, and expertise I have come to expect.

She nodded, picking up three boxes and continuing.

MacKenzie: For their discovery and limited study of the Tree of Life – Commander Farrel and the effect the Genesis Device had on her – I hereby award the Scientific Discovery Ribbon to Commander Adea, Commander Jovenan, and Lieutenant Gnai.

Adea/Jovenan/Gnai: Responses

Addison passed the boxes down the respective aisles until they reached the intended recipients.

MacKenzie: For locating and disabling the dampening field and coming up with a solution for our communications blackout, I hereby award the Innovation Ribbon to Lieutenant Bergmen and Ensign Imril.

She once again sent the boxes down the appropriate lanes until they reached the duo.

Bergmen/Imril: Response

MacKenzie: For your cool heads in working to commandeer the Bird of Prey from the Suliban, I hereby award the Good Conduct Ribbon to Commander Dakora, Lieutenant Silveira, and Lieutenant Sadar.

Dakora/Silveira/Sadar: Responses

MacKenzie: I would also like to point out that without the work of this particular individual, we would likely have never survived being on that planet at all. Because of Dr. Sadar’s quick thinking in working to replicate an antidote to the toxins being disbursed by the local plant life, we were all able to continue on. For her good work and quick thinking under pressure, I hereby award her the Captain’s Commendation.

She passed the singular box over to Sadar.

Sadar: Response

MacKenzie: For our work to resolve the situation between the Klingons and the Da’al, Starfleet has also awarded Commodore Nicholotti and me the Diplomacy Ribbon.

MacKenzie smiled to her friend and former CO.

Nicholotti: Response

MacKenzie: I would also be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to recognize another group of officers who, as I understand it, rescued several children from a cave on Laoi III while on a mission of scientific discovery. While their assistance was certainly not required, they responded in a manner befitting of Starfleet officers: entering a dangerous situation to preserve life whenever possible. I am pleased to award the Starfleet Medal of Commendation to Lieutenants Sadar, Vailani, and Gnai.

Sadar/Vailani/Gnai: Response

With the awards disbursed and her corner of the table now empty, it was time for them to forget the formality of what just occurred and to enjoy themselves.

MacKenzie: Now, if someone wants to fire up the grill, we can have lunch. Enjoy this beautiful scenery – it’s back to the grind soon!

Any: Response

(OOC: Also happy to sim the post-awards here, so feel free to keep this scene going.)

Tag, and TBC!
