((Grombria’s Office, Place de la Concorde, Earth))
At this point, the door at the other end of the office opened, and a tall slim blond man walked in. He cracked into a smile as he saw them both, positively rushing over and grabbing Genkos by the hand. He pumped it quite enthusiastically, as if hoping the good doctor would give him a sweetie.
Grombria: You - you must be Commander Adea. ::he pointed to himself:: Councillor Grombira. ::he turned to Jovenan:: And this… this must be our esteemed Jovenan. ::he let out a laugh:: Not what you were expecting, eh? They put me here because of my “excessive personality” - I don’t think any of our people wanted to deal with me ::another laugh:: So, what can I get you?
Genkos gave Jovenan a sidelong glance that said “what in the four hells is going on here”. Jovenan’s expression said “I’m so sorry”.
Adea: Um, just a tea please.
Jovenan: I’d like tea as well.
Grombria: A tea?! ::he checked the time:: Well the sun’s past the yardarm somewhere, so I’m having a small glass of something. ::he grinned:: I have no idea what it means, but a colleague over London used it as an excuse, so I’ve co-opted it.
Adea: ::uncertainly:: Interesting.
The Councillor grabbed them both their teas and gestured for them both to sit down. As Genkos settled himself, he noticed the Councillor had returned with an incredibly small and delicate-looking glass of… something clear.
Jovenan: Thank you for the invite. It’s an honour to meet you… sir.
Grombria: Please, call me Grombria. Do you mind if I call you Jovenan? ::without waiting for an answer:: Of course, the honour is all mine - it’s not very often I get to spend time with one of Edo’s wayward children, even the ones who’ve upped and joined the Starfleet. ::looking over at Genkos:: You must be one of Jovenan’s superior officers ::without waiting for an answer:: Very kind of you to come, very kind indeed.
Adea: My pl-
Grombria’s eyes were then laser focused onto the other Edo in the room, and Genkos’ mouth closed tighter than the seal around what was left of Addison’s office.
Grombria: So, how long have you been with the fleet? Tell me your life story ::he raised a finger:: Quickly now, I’m a very busy man ::he laughed:: Go on.
Jovenan: Oh, um. I’ve been with this crew for almost two years now, first on the Excalibur and now on the Artemis. I was born in Ramakis, in Somian, but I moved out of God’s Claims as soon as I got permission to leave, and I haven’t been there for six years I believe. ::quick glance at Genkos and then back:: They are my community now. Something of a family, I guess.
Grombria’s face clouded as he regarded Jovenan.
Grombria: You’re telling me that these Starfleeters have replaced the good people of God’s Claims as your family?!
Genkos started to rise, about to interrupt when the clouds parted and beams of sunshine seemed to radiate out of the councillor. He was exhausting.
Grombria: Fantastic, brilliant, amazing, that’s exactly what I hoped would happen.
Jovenan: Response
Grombria: The homeworld’s all well and good, I’m sure you agree, but there’s something to be said about travel.
The way he said “travel” was vast and grandiose and gave the word’s meaning a status and grandeur that Genkos had never heard in it before.
Adea: Agreed, and I have to say that we all see your colleague here as a member of our family too.
Genkos shot her what he hoped was a reassuring smile.
Jovenan: Response
