Jovenan: I like the idea of a top hat. She also likes racing, but I don’t know if there are hats associated in that sports… ::points at cowboy hat:: What’s this?
Munro: You've never done a Western Holodeck Programme? :: tuts :: Commander Jovenan we need to remedy this at the first opportunity. I thought it was a rite of passage for every Starfleet officer to do a Western.
Jovenan: There must be a gap in my erudition into such activities, by the sound of it. Would- would you remind me what exactly is “western”?
Munro: It's 19th century Earth. I don't know much about the historical contexts but they have wagon trains, horses, gun fights, cowboys that wear those hats :: points :: It's a lot of fun :: looks at Jovenan :: There are more serious ones that are more about the learning of that time period. It was, apparently, a very brutal time in Earth's history. :: shrugs :: Hence why I've only done the fun one. My Holodeck time is for kicking back and shooting some train robbers.
She placed her mulled wine cup down and then mimicked two guns and a pow pow with her hands.
Jovenan: I see. I’ll have to try it out.
Munro: :: to the vendor :: I'll take a cowboy hat. That black one, with the feathers :: mischief :: We can schedule some time on the Holodeck. I'll even do the historical one but only if you'll do the fun one with me? Not historically accurate at all and ridiculous but you'll have so much fun. And you get to ride a horse - who doesn't love riding horses?
Jovenan: You’ve convinced me. ::to the vendor:: I’ll take two cowboy hats. ::to Munro:: I bet Vitor will like a hat like that, too. But you’ll have to teach me all the basic tricks first before I’ll get him to join me to the holodeck.
Ava couldn't be more happy, she had become an avid horse rider during her academy years. It wasn't that different from riding Nauran Darikans, the closest semblance to horses her homeworld had. When visiting the family's homestead on a Scottish Island, Aunt Christie would take her horse riding instead of their usual runs in the morning.
Munro: Nothing would give me more pleasure. Horses are easy. Trying to fire a rifle or lasso a cow while riding a horse - not so easy.
Jovenan: Sounds fun. ::to the vendor:: I’ll have similar hats too, please. That dark brown one, and the, um, beige one?
Ava watched as Jovenan selected her hats carefully. Turns out the Edo woman was a very good shopper. If things didn't work out with Starfleet she could probably make a career out of it.
Hat vendor: Fine choices. I can see that you both have an eye for quality products. Would you like something else?
Munro: I'm good.
They both paid for their purchases, without so much as a haggle in sight. Ava realised that they were probably overcharged but it wasn't like they could save the stipend for a rainy day. What you don't spend goes back to the Federation.
Once they had bought the hats, they stepped away from the stall, and Jovenan looked at the Commander.
Jovenan: So… westerns, cowboys and train robbers? Would you happen to have any other interests? I might need to buy a present for one more person, after all. ::smirk::
Munro: :: delighted :: For me? Well my mother sends me enough plants to open my own botanical, so whatever you do don't get me any plants. You know what, Jovenan, you've already got me my gift.
Jovenan: Response
Munro: :: laughs :: The pleasure of your company, of course! I've had a lot of fun and the promise of some holoadventures. I call that a good day.
