(( Near Cave System - Coastal Cliffs, Outside Bantlox Colony, Laoi III ))
Vailani: Can you show us what direction your friends went?
Gnai: Response
The boy raised a hand to point down one of the tunnels, and when Zoyara shone her torch down that section, she was forced to keep her face from wincing. Great. The largest of cracks were forming in that section and looked like there was already several collapses.
Then there was another scream. That was pain. A child’s pain.
Iruh: I think Nimo got caught in the rocks!
Zoyara’s instinct was to rush forward towards the screams but her training told her to make an assessment first of all. Her torch flung from side to side as Gila calmed the young Bolian boy.
Sadar: You go back that way, to the entrance, quick as you can. I want you to go outside the cave and wait for us there. Can you do that?
She shone the torch around the structure and noticed an exposed gap, partially concealed by a sharp outcrop. It looked secure for now, they could make their way through there, it was even large enough for Gnai’s mechsuit.
Iruh: But Nimo! What if she’s hurt? ::bawling:: I’m sorry, we thought we’d be able to find the Ship, Ahran said there might be treasure-
Zoyara wasn’t an adventurous child, not even a little, she had seen her father’s punishments delivered swiftly to her older brothers and she had decided very early on that breaking the rules was not a desirable life choice. At this moment, she could see her fathers logic.
Vailani: Iruh? Is that your name?
The boy nodded.
Vailani: We need to focus on your friends so that we can get them to safety. Can you help us by doing as Doctor Sadar says?
Gnai: Response
Iruh didn’t look too convinced as he looked to Gila, who still held him within her grasp, she scooted closer to him on her knees.
Sadar: ::trembling voice:: You’re not in trouble, Iruh. Now, please, go, and we’ll help Ahran and Nimo.
Iruh: Okay…
The child, with practiced efficiency, made his way back. Once Zoyara was sure he had passed the most perilous part safely she returned her focus back to the other children and the passage.
Vailani: I think there’s an opening, just behind that crevice.
Gnai: Response
Sadar: They can’t have gotten far.
Those screams didn’t sound too far so she hoped that locating them might not be so hard.
They moved forward, Zoyara remained in the centre, fifteen feet behind Gila. Thankfully, the ceiling above them had entered a state of relative calm, so no more stalactites threatened with impaling their heads from above as they walked.
A human-looking boy, couldn’t be older than ten or twelve, was trying desperately to claw away some rocks from a large rockslide. And stuck within the wall was a smaller child, a girl, her leg stuck between some of the rocks.
The boy saw their torch light and stopped his attempts at moving the rocks to yell for them.
Ahran: Help! Help us, please, Nimo’s stuck and I can’t get her out! The rocks just fell, we didn’t touch anything, I swear!
Gila didn’t hesitate to rush forward to the two children. Zoyara quickened her pace and scanned the area with her eyes, the torch lighting up the relevant spots.
Sadar: ::shushes:: Ahran, please, you have to be quiet. It’s okay, we’ll get Nimo out. ::to Vailani:: Vai-net, thoughts?
Zoyara scrambled closer, getting lower so she could have a good look. She thought that the rocks above had settled for now, they could move the section just enough to get the girl’s foot free.
Vailani: I think we can move this section here if we can prop something underneath.
Sadar: Lieutenant Gnai, your suit’s carrying capacity was somewhere north of 200 kg, right? Is it possible you could offer some counterweight so we can slide Nemo’s leg out?
Gnai: Response
Zoyara nodded toward the Galadoran, grateful that they were here - she had no idea how she and Gila would have been able to do this without them.
Vailani: Thank The Prophets you were here Lieutenant. If you get underneath here :: indicates the spot :: And I’ll support the leg, and Gila will pull backwards once I give the order?
Sadar/Gnai: Responses
As each of them fell into the relevant position, Zoyara nodded to Gnai to indicate that she was ready and then looked to Gila to ensure that she was prepared as well.
Vailani: Let’s go.
Sadar/Gnai: Responses
As Gnai used the suit to raise the rock, she heard the crunch of stone and felt small pellets fall on her own head. The girl screamed some more.
Vailani: Gila, now!
And just like that the girl was freed, just the stone crumbled and crushed the exact spot her leg had been. The rock face then began to split into two. Zoyara pushed herself backwards and grabbed the boy’s arm as she headed to the exit.
Vailani: We have to go now.
The cave began to crumble, she had no time to look back on Gnai - she only hoped they were able to get clear of the falling cave.
