((Armory | Deck 08 | USS Artemis))
Solas slipped the new battery into his rifle and gave the device a quick once over before handing the weapon over to Ensign Savel.
Kel: Well, that’s one down. What do you think? Good enough to go back on the rack?
After a quick inspection of the display, Savel’s eyes fell back on Solas.
Savel: Indeed, I believe it is in an acceptable condition now.
As Solas holseterd the rifle back on the rack, he heard Savel continue to their conversation about life aboard the Artemis.
Savel: Ensign, I will admit your choice has left me curious. I have noticed that most security officers on board do not like assignments that keep them at the security center. There is a shared belief among them that it removes them from the “action”. Do you not share this concern?
Solas frowned as he pondered the logic of what Savel had told him. He understood it, but couldn’t find himself agreeing with the sentiment.
Kel: Well, on a day-to-day basis I’m sure it’s not as interesting as other areas of the ship. But the center is, as the name would imply, the core of our security on the ship. If the ship were a living being this would be the center of its immune system. Maintaining it is just as important as keeping the bridge secure, and I’m almost sure the captain would agree.
Savel: A valid point. I am glad that we agree.
Satisfied, Solas picked up another rifle and began to dress it down and check it’s guts. He carried his conversation forward in a rather, unconcerned manner.
Kel: What about you? It may not be a ‘logical’ position, but I imagine there’s a particular duty shift you find, preferential, over the others.
Savel: Response
Solas nodded, pursing his lips as he examined the chamber on his new rifle, after removing the battery and making sure it was discharged.
Kel: I’ll have to see how I enjoy that assignment.
Savel: Response
