(( The Sadar-Aqila Quarters - Deck 176, DS224 ))

It had been a strange sort of day. Nothing much had changed in her life aboard DS224 - she was still as busy avoiding the big issue waiting in the next room, and still daily faced with the knowledge that she couldn’t avoid it forever - but now, another conundrum had been placed before her.

Once her disciplinary was concluded... What would become of her then? And perhaps more crucially, what did the people she cared about expect from her? Kolya expected nothing except her repentance, something she couldn’t grant him, but what of Lt.Cdr. Jovenan, Lt.Cdr. Silveira, LT Vailani?

If they were still on speaking terms, what would they advise her to do?

The answer was obvious, and Gila looked at the earnest gaze of the Doctor on the screen.

Sadar: =/\= ... Y-You are right. I-I’m the only one who can make something of my current situation... A-And whether I am able to do so or not, w-well, that depends on me, yes? ::slight smile:: And so, u-until I’ve made something of it, I-I won’t drag your reputation down with me... B-But, I... I-I'll think on what you said. Okay? =/\=

Bancroft: =/\= ::smiling slightly:: Fair enough. Thinking on it will do. I trust you to know when – and if – you’re ready for anything else. =/\=

Gila nodded slowly. When would she be ready? The Wheel only knew. She’d spent so long running away from everything, constantly avoiding the next logical step, that the notion of running towards something seemed... Daunting, but in a hopeful way.

At least, she hoped so.

Sadar: =/\= ... I know, and I appreciate it. I do. ::smiles::  B-But instead of worrying about me, concern yourself with yourself. The job only gets harder from here. ::indicates his pips:: Captain MacKenzie works her Doctors particularly hard. =/\=

Despite their brief time working together, Gila knew that Dr. Bancroft saw through her attempt at deflection. Gila’s mannerisms were familiar to most of her old colleagues, new and old, and most likely, the rumours about her had allowed newer hires to also learn a little of the anxiety-ridden and perpetually avoidant Doctor that once hid in the corners of Sickbay.

That was her past.

Bancroft: =/\= ::rueful smile:: Boy, does she. But I choose to believe she does it because she believes the work matters. And because she believes her people can rise to it. =/\=

Sadar: =/\= ::pensive expression:: She does... ::blinks:: She always seems to think you are ready for responsibility before you think of it yourself. =/\=

Bancroft: =/\= ::gently:: She’s not the only one. ::beat, meaningfully:: I wouldn’t still be here if a few people hadn’t seen something in me before I learned how to see it myself. =/\=

Gila looked down slightly. The insinuation hung in the air like a curtain in the wind, moved gently by their shared understanding, but with neither of them making a move to bare what was concealed beyond. They didn’t have to.

Though the mere notion that Gila had something in common with Flt.Cpt. MacKenzie both terrified and humbled her.

Sadar: =/\= ... Y-You earned your place, Dr. Bancroft. A-As did we all. =/\=

That was the past.

Bancroft: =/\= ::thin smile:: Take care of yourself, Doctor Sadar. I’m glad we had the chance to talk. ::beat:: I’d like it if our paths crossed again. =/\=

Sadar: =/\= Likewise, Dr. Bancroft. May the Turn of the Wheel bring Peace to your Path. =/\=

She turned off the console and looked at the idle icon floating where Dr. Bancroft’s face had been just moments before.

That was the past, and a good one at that.
