Gila was hopeless. She had so much free time now, she genuinely didn’t know what to do with it. At this time - back when she was still an Officer aboard the USS Artemis-A - she would have been conducting physical examinations for the crew, utilizing the quiet calm of shoreleave to get some long-neglected research done... All things she didn’t feel worthy of doing now.

It was an illogical approach, certainly - nowhere in her discharge papers did it expressly state she was forbidden from conducting independent research anymore - and yet she didn’t feel like it would amount to anything. What good would a sofarih’s input on medical phenomena have? No one would ever trust her to do medical work again, least of all herself...

Vailani: Gila!

One long clumsy leg ran into the other as Gila mid-stride tried to run away, as an instinctual response to the loud yell, and she stumbled as a logical consequence. And then, her brain caught up with her actions and she stopped in place, silent, anxious. Vai-n- she shook her head - Officer Vailani had found her. Gila turned around, uneasily, determined to face what was coming in a manner that did her former friendship with the willful Bajoran justice, and saw the shorter woman come to a halt in front of her, wheezing.

For how long had she been running?

Vailani: :: out of breath :: What are you doing? I've been tracking you for the last hour?

Gila frowned, rubbing her anxiety band.

Sadar: I-I-I’m s-s-sorry... I-If you had- I-I mean, m-my quarters- ::bites inside of her cheek:: Wh-Wh-Why are you here?

Vailani: Why do you think I'm here? I'm here to sort this out. Clearly there's been an error made. It happens sometimes. Files get miscategorised or corrupted.

Gila’s spine ran cold. What was it with these aliens and making her explain so many times? Not just the Captain, or the security staff aboard DS224 to whom she was reporting for her disciplinary, but now Officer Vailani as well? Her explanation was that she had no explanation beyond the fact that she had made a grievous mistake and had realized far too late.

But she knew that Officer Vailani would want that explanation, regardless of its perceived validity, and Gila also knew her well enough to know that it would likely be in a manner that would cause a slight spectacle. Gila wouldn’t do that to her.

Sadar: Y-You’ve already checked the c-computers n-numerous times to check if th-that’s what it was, i-if you’ve come to find me.

Vailani: Response

Sadar: N-No, I-I’ll tell... B-But, eh, can we ::looks around at the crowds:: Let’s go to a more, uhh... Q-Quiet place? ::wrings her hands:: Please?

After the uncomfortable encounter with that one crewman in the Cargo Bay, Gila was getting more and more paranoid about standing where many people could see her. It didn’t matter that the vast majority of Deep Space 224’s population was content to let her remain in anonymity - just go along with their day and let her be just ‘one of the crowd’ - Gila still couldn’t shake the feeling that she could hear malicious whispers in every corner.
