to USS Artemis-A – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Crashed Jem'Hadar Fighter - Outskirts of the Bantlox Colony, Laoi III ))
He hanged slowly as he looked for a spot he could land, but with all the shards of the debris Vitor wasn’t too keen to simply jump. He reached one of the support columns, where his foot slided, almost making him lose balance.
His quick reflexes made him hold the handle on the side, before slipping down on the floor, a little quicker than he expected.
But unarmed.
Silveira: Now that wasn’t so fun. You guys really need to get down? I see that rifle you mentioned, but I can look for the eyepiece.
Morgan: After watching you? No. I’m fine. Find the eyepiece.
Imril: Ready to assist if needed. It was my idea, after all.
Vitor shrugged and began to look around. He grabbed the Jem’Hadar rifle, it hadn’t been that long ago that they fought against them, or had it?
oO It was before Frontier Day… Right? Nevermind, let's get to work. Oo
Vitor started disassembling the rifle as he stepped carefully around the debris. A small light called his attention, and he walked to it as he split apart the rifle pieces.
He tipped his head in the direction of the light.
Silveira: I think it’s here.
Morgan: You get eyes on it?
Imril tried to give him some more light, and he nodded, there was something in the middle of that rubble pile.
Silveira: Yeah, I think I do.
Vitor kneeled down, he had the rifle already dismantled but tossed it aside, so he began to move the dirt and debris, to reach the eyepiece, as he heard Imril and Kyle talking above him.
Morgan: What are we hoping to accomplish with it?
Imril: Track down the emitter. Inventory the disruptors, torpedoes, Houdinis and such. Maybe even locate the self-destruct system so we don't have to rig anything to be rid of this overgrown stink-bomb.
Vitor managed to retrieve the eyepiece. It was bent and dirty, but it appeared functional. At least it lit up. He then looked for another rifle.
Morgan: And we think we’re gonna be able to do that here? Or can that eyepiece interface anywhere?
Imril: In addition to accessing the ship’s sensor net, the eyepiece should also function something like the exographic targeting sensor that comes with a Starfleet-issue sniper rifle. The ones that were built for the old TR-116s were inspired by what the DS9 crew learned of Dominion eyepieces when they had access to a ship like this. It should be able to look through all the walls of this ship, not just give us a view outside. Do things like lock in on active energy sources.Which we can use to, among other things, find the emitter.
Morgan: Uh huh…
Vitor found another rifle, but instead of disassembling it he pulled the strap, and tossed it over his shoulder. He attached the eyepiece to his belt and looked up trying to find the best way to climb back to the others.
Vitor looked around and he reached to the side of the wall, which was… The ceiling of the room… Right?
Well, whatever it was he would need to use it to jump up, and then climb back.
Silveira: OK I got it.
Imril: I wonder if looking at the pieces of the rifle you kept through the lens will elicit a response? If it registers the plasma bank or the secondary energy cell used to power the stun setting, maybe we can trick it into tagging other energy sources?
Morgan: Can it do that? Seriously? …and after all these years?
Vitor jumped and pulled himself up, using the supports and handles he could find.
Climbing up was actually an easier task than he thought.
Imril: Everything is hypothetical until it’s tested. ::To Silveira:: I recommend you come back up here with us before we do anything with that thing. Do you need help climbing up?
Vitor didn’t want to offer Imril a deadpan look, but with a heavier breathing he still managed to reply.
Silveira: I won’t refuse a hand…
Kyle offered his and Vitor grabbed it, and got lifted up to their original point.
Breathing heavily from the effort he sat down, and pulled the Jem’Hadar rifle forward.
Morgan: Hey, Sil – watch where you point that thing!
He raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes.
Silveira: Sure Doc. ::He set down the rifle on his lap, and pulled the eyepiece, handing it to Imril:: This is what you're looking for, right?
Imril: Response
Morgan: So, how do we use it?
Vitor took another deep breath and closed his eyes. The climbing down and up had taken a little of his energy down.
Silveira: We put it around our neck?
Imril: Response
Morgan’s brow furrowed again, and he pointed at the eyepiece, then the rifle.
Morgan: Can you see anything… helpful?
Vitor finally got his breathing in a regular pace and leaned forward. He raised his hand to Kyle.
Silveira: Let Imril settle in with it, Kyle. That isn’t an LCARS system
Imril: Response
Vitor trusted Imril’s skills. They hadn’t worked together for that long, but Vitor had a very good impression of them.
Silveira: Remember baby steps. Take it slowly, the last thing we want is the ship firing.
Imril/Morgan: Response
Vitor tried to keep quiet, not bothering Imril.
Silveira: C’mon Ensign, time to show us that famed Engineering magic
Imril/Morgan: Response
