K'Wara: The security technology you described, I think, should be the first step. As Ensign Breys said, it is important to verify - beyond any reasonable doubt - that none of the biometric data has been tampered with, so we know that our list of potential collaborators is reliable.

Jetripar: All of that should be accessible here. Though I will admit that I am no expert with the systems. As I understand it, biometrics are taken from all staff upon being hired. That is paired with a unique code distributed to them and carried on their person. The two work together when attempting to gain access to an area, and it is not granted if they do not match. The short version is that a code cannot be used on its own when moving from zone to zone. Any mismatch would be flagged in the computer, as well.

K’Wara: Interesting. Is this the same kind of security system as used in other governmental buildings?

Jetripar: I believe something similar is in use, though I believe this one is more sophisticated than others due to the sensitivity of the project.

K’Wara: I hope you understand that I only ask this because I wish to be thorough and finalize our investigation as quickly as possible. Every security system has to have been tested multiple times for potential workarounds, to verify that no one can sneak past it. Was the testing of this system done entirely in-house, or did you bring in consultants from outside?

Jetripar: I completely understand. I arranged for a contract with a security specialist. She has worked with many government agencies and is highly regarded. Krenna is her name. You’ll be able to find her easily, should you want to look her up

This line of questioning was beginning to make Jetripar nervous. Not because he had done anything wrong, but because he didn’t like thinking he’d been duped. Surely Krenna wouldn’t have wasted a stellar reputation with the Da’al government. But this was a big project. Maybe she had, if the pay had been good enough.

K’Wara: Response

Jetripar: Of course, of course. That’s why we’re here, after all.

Jetripar moved to a security console. He knew the most basic of its functioning, but he was far from an expert. He was more of an expert on having other people do this sort of thing.

Jetripar: You there. Officer… the one on the left. Can you pull up all the biometric data from the 16 hours before and after the theft?

The security guard knew his way around the system like it was their job, and before long a stream of data was flowing on the screen.

K’Wara: Response

Jetripar: That is… odd. ::pause:: Does that mean… Well, I’m not sure what it means. It’s a mismatch, but it was permitted. Why?
