((
Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
In the
captain’s ready room, MacKenzie listened as Lieutenants Sadar, Silveira, and
Vailani offered their assessments of their team’s experiences on Galaris IV.
According to Silveira, Ensign Imril uncovered that the Kobyar drones were influenced
by Ferengi design. Vailani offered that the Grunden general suspected his
government in a conspiracy but seemed to be withholding information. And Lieutenant
Sadar revealed their discovery of prisoners…
MacKenzie: You discovered who?
Sadar: Th-That’s, uhh, D-Doctor Nesin and Engineer Griil, Sir. T-Two of the most senior scientists responsible for the planet reaching warp-capability.
She shook her head slowly.
MacKenzie: And they were where? What do you make of it?
Sadar: They were kept sedated in something resembling hibernation-tanks in an underground facility in the center of Breetia. Unfortunately, I-I didn’t have the time to ask why... W-We were being chased by guards up until we got beamed out.
Vailani: I think we’ve got nothing but half-formed opinions and mistruths to go on. The Grand Marshall, seemingly acting on his own, seems to be the main agitator here?
Sadar: Not necessarily. ::twists
anxiety band nervously:: D-Doctor Nesin - the Grunden scientist - seems certain
that it’s, uhh, High Chief Kraton, one of their high-ranking government
officials, who’s at fault for their imprisonment.
The commanding officer of the Artemis rested her left elbow on
the armrest of her chair. No sooner had her appendage made contact, did she
rest her head on that hand and start to massage her forehead. After a moment,
she sat straight up in her chair again.
MacKenzie: The Kobyar and Grunden have each agreed to come aboard and
share what they know and start a conversation since this is neutral ground. We
need to continue our investigation and see what else we can learn. Lieutenant
Vailani, where do you think we should begin and how might you
recommend we distribute teams?
Vailani: I think we need to learn more about the technology, it is clear they’ve had some outside influence. The signal that Doctor Sadar’s team located, might hold some clues. I can go with Lieutenant Silveira, Gila and Mister Bergmen to track this down.
Sadar: I-If possible, I’d like to get the chance to do a proper, uhh... I-I-Interrogation? D-D-Debrief? I-I want to know why Chief Engineer Griil and Doctor Nesin were kept hidden away like that. Th-They seemed to have no knowledge of alien life, so they’ve been kept down there since before First Contact.
Silveira: I admit you
have my curiosity as well.
MacKenzie: I agree
on both counts. Who do you want?
Vailani: I think Commander Jovenan can
help Ensigns Imril and Tho’Bi to uncover the secrets of the technology we
recovered. Ensign Bancroft observed the technology in the underground compound
- he would be useful to assist them.
Silveira: Makes sense. I am good with this new team split.
Vailani: That means yourself Captain, can host Major Oolwi and General Kexxin. Ensign Cole on guard and Richards can assist you.
MacKenzie nodded, agreeing with the choices.
MacKenzie: What do we know about the
signal so far?
Sadar: Th-The signal originated from off-world, but it’s not very strong. I-It’s likely that it originates from somewhere in the system... W-We may, uhh... W-We may need to move the Artemis to pursue it, b-but with alien government personnel aboard, I, uhh... I-I’m not sure how that would be received?
Silveira: Depends. That’s something that the Captain will have to
deal with when the time comes.
Vailani: With permission we could take a
runabout if we have too. There's no indication that the outside influence is
likely to be dangerous? We could start with Gila’s prisoners, they might be
able to tell us more about the signal? I mean, if that's okay with you, sir?
MacKenzie: I agree. Lieutenant Sadar, see what you can learn.
Sadar: Understood Sir.
Silveira: Last time we teamed up it was a bit… Easier. ::He nodded to
Zie:: Good luck with the negotiations Captain. I recommend a small meal with
their favorite food to each delegation. And water.
Vailani: Captain, I'd
recommend you appeal to Kexxin’s sense of honour, it seemed important to him.
For what it's worth, I think he wants to help and on the ship - away from
prying eyes and ears - he might feel more forthcoming.
MacKenzie nodded to them and pushed away her chair from her desk.
MacKenzie: Let’s get to work.
(( Transporter Room 1 – Deck 4, USS Artemis-A ))
MacKenzie entered the
transporter room to find Ensign Cole and Samantha Richards already waiting for
her. She smiled and nodded to them.
MacKenzie: Samantha, I’ve asked for
you to assist with these talks because you have knowledge of the drone
equipment from your examination with Ensign Imril. Ensign Cole, I’ve asked for
you to help maintain order, and to bring your perspective for what your team
witnessed while with the Grunden.
Richards/Cole: Responses
MacKenzie: Do either of you have
any questions before we bring the representatives aboard?
Richards/Cole: Response
(OOC: We can backsim anything
here as needed.)
She turned to the
transporter chief and nodded. With her attention back on the transporter pad,
she watched as both representatives materialized on the pad. When the cycle was
complete, MacKenzie stepped forward and offered a welcoming smile.
MacKenzie: Major. General.
Welcome aboard the Artemis. Thank you for agreeing to meet on neutral
territory – I believe you are both aware of the urgency we feel in pursuit of a
resolution to the fighting, given recent events…
Kexxin/Oolwi: Response
MacKenzie: Allow me to introduce
my officers ::gesturing:: Ensign Cole with security, and Samantha Richards with
sciences. They were both part of each of your teams conducting investigations
on the surface.
Cole/Richards: Response
Kexxin/Oolwi: Response
MacKenzie gestured to
the door.
MacKenzie: If you’ll follow me,
we have much to discuss.
Cole/Richards: Response
Kexxin/Oolwi: Response
Tag, and TBC!
