((Rakantha Province, Bajor))
Savel piloted the shuttle over the province in the direction of the landing zone that the Lieutenant had designated for their mission. As they flew over, he looked out at the terrain that had been ruined during the Cardassian Occupation of the planet. Even after all this time, it still hadn't been able to recover fully.
Renirs: Not the prettiest gardens they’ve got there, huh?
Savel: Unfortunately not.
Chevalier: What can one living being inflict upon another? It's horrible to see…
Once the shuttle landed, Savel stood from his seat and gathered his things before heading outside of the shuttle. He looked around, taking in their immediate surroundings. Things seemed isolated enough that they should be able to conduct their training scenario without any interruption.
Renirs: So, hi, yeah. ::pause:: That’s a pretty awesome suit. Does it have any guns?
Gnai: Hello Crewman Renirs. Thank you. No, this suit is not made for combat. In fact, combat is preferably avoided...
Renirs: Response?
Renirs and Gnai were using the moment to get to know each other a little more while Savel and Jaseb got ready to leave.
Savel: ::to Jaseb:: I believe that I am ready to go, if you are as well. ::to Jovenan:: Unless you have an objection, we'll begin Lieutenant.
Chevalier: ::puts the breather on his mouth:: Agree, sir. Ready to leave.
Jovenan nodded.
Jovenan: Of course. Choose a place where you wish to begin and map yourself a route. I’d recommend trying different types of terrains for varied results. Go ahead, I’ll join you in a moment to see how you’re progressing.
With a nod to the lieutenant, Savel looked at their initial scans of the area. It showed a portion of the terrain close by that seemed like a decent starting point. With their destination set, the Vulcan started to lead Jaseb along the route that was mapped out.
Gnai: Are you ready, Crewman Renirs? ::pointing to the nearest bend in the river:: Perhaps that would make a decent starting point to trace the toxins.
Renirs: Response
As the two of them walked away from the shuttle, Savel got a better look at the area from ground level. It offered a perspective one didn't get during a flyover, allowing someone to get a better appreciation about the current state of things here.
Savel: It is unfortunate that the Bajorans living in this province have not been able to reverse the damage done by the Cardassians. Even though this is a simple training exercise, perhaps we will gather data that can help to correct that.
Chevalier: Response?
Savel sought a spot where the terrain was relatively flat and otherwise uninteresting. It might give them a good 'base' reading before they moved onto some of the other parts of the soil.
Once they were there, Savel stopped and set down his pack, leaving the flap open just in case they needed to grab some supplies from it. He then took out his tricorder and powered it on before looking to Jaseb.
Savel: I suggest we both take readings from the same points. That way we may compare our data and assist one another should we need it. This seems like a good spot to begin.
Chevalier: Response
Savel went first, dropping to a knee as he set the tricorder to begin a scan of the surface. After a few moments and various beeps, some of the data started to fill in on the screen.
Savel: Just as we suspected. Most of the organic matter has been broken down over time so that very little of it remains. I don't immediately see anything toxic about the soil but it certainly does not contain the necessary components to sustain much in the way of life. ::looking to Jaseb:: What are the results of your scan?
Chevalier: Response
The Vulcan stood, moving closer so that he could hold his tricorder next to Jaseb's, allowing them to easily compare the readouts.
