(( Kerrit Dromos Race Track - City One, Rylor))

((( OOC: I’m removing all ‘Any’ tags from the SIM, as it was frankly making it a bit clunky xD Going forwards, I’ll only be leaving tags for my fellow spectators apart from a single ‘Any’ tag at the end, but feel free to hop in wherever! )))

There was a potent atmosphere at the Kerrit Dromos Race Track as people put down their bets. There was a pretty equal split on the odds - some bet on the longer, lankier Bancroft (whether out of genuine belief or loyalty to a fellow lower decker), while others bet on the experienced Ava, who had participated in competitive track in the Academy. Tamio, obviously, was firmly in the Ava camp.

As the honorary ‘fun friend’, it was as much their obligation as their pleasure.

K’Wara: Obviously, Ava has this in the bag. Not even a question. What do you figure?

Imril: ::To K’Wara:: Roy’s done just as much running as the Commander, lately. That’s got to count for something.

Storm:  Besides, he’s lanky, and the lanky ones usually make good runners.

Tamio looked up, realizing that Alexandra Storm had stepped near us. She had a particularly shrieky female officer accompanying her, though Tamio refocused on the conversation with Vailani and Imril before deciphering what was being shrieked. They had a vested interest in making sure Vailani wasn’t seeing the kind of improper items being put up for bets somewhere behind her.

Vailani: :: reluctant sigh :: If I was to bet :: disapproving glare at Imril and K'Wara :: Which I don't do. But if I was, I would place my bet on Commander Munro. She seems like the type that's used to getting what she wants. I don't trust anyone that chooses to grow a moustache. Least of all a doctor.

Tamio nodded dutifully at Vailani’s glare, though they knew even feigning to pretend that they hadn’t put down a bet was pointless. Though her vendetta against moustaches was curious, and Tamio had to make a note to try and ask her about it if they ever caught her in a good mood.

Off in the distance, the two competitors were sizing each other up.

Munro: You can forfeit if you like? I'm not sure your dignity would remain intact but it's an option. If you're not ready?

Bancroft: I appreciate the concern, Commander. ::beat:: I assure you my dignity has survived far worse than five kilometers.

Munro: We’ll see, Roy. :: emphasis on each word :: We shall see.

((( OOC: From this point on, please leave no tags for Munro and Bancroft, as they’re focusing on the race, but the scenes are still considered ‘conjoined’ so we can react to all the hilarious rolls going on in Discord. )))

Imril: ::Clapping:: You can do it, Roy! I’m betting on you!

Tamio whistled.

K’Wara: Leave him in the dust, Ava!

“Three!”

“Two!”

“One!”

“Go!”

Ava was off, making an admirable pace from the very beginning of the race, while Roy seemed to struggle to get into a good pace. It was a bit of an anticlimactic start to the race, if they had to be honest, but the audience still made sure to cheer loudly. No one could say that the Artemisians were poor sportsmen. Ava’s lead persisted stubbornly despite Roy’s attempts at gaining, and by the time they crossed the one-kilometer mark, it was clear that Roy would have quite the challenge ahead of him.

Imril: ::Clapping:: Keep on her, Roy! Wooooo!

K’Wara: Don’t let up, Ava! ::claps::

Storm: One stride at a time.  You can bridge this gap.  You still have four kilometers!

Vailani: He'd need to be near her to keep on her.

Tamio should’ve predicted that Vailani’s Zoyara’s approach to race enjoyment was in addressing the lack of logic in the cheerleaders’ optimism. She could’ve been a Vulcan.

Imril: He’s just keeping some in the tank for later.

Storm:  I’m sure he is.

Vailani: Sure :: sarcastic :: That must be it.

K’Wara: Hope he starts using it soon, otherwise there’s not going to be much of a race! ::hold a hand to their mouth:: Come on, Roy, get those feet moving!

As the two runners kept running (Ava quite leisurely, Roy less so), Vailani - in an uncharacteristic bout of social grace - turned towards Imril with interest.

Vailani: I had no idea you were such good friends with Lt. Bancroft?

Imril: Response

K'Wara: He’s a good sort. Good at jokes, awful at roasting mush. Also plays a good game of Galaxopoly.

This was the point that an upset literally manifested on the race track and Tamio’s felinoid eyes widened in surprise. Vailani was evidently just as shocked as they were.

Vailani: What is that?

K’Wara: A hologram? Sabotage? Or a wayward pet, enticed by the excitement?

Tamio tried to be relaxed about the situation, but they did rise from their seat, looking over the bannister to try to ascertain the situation on the track.

Imril: Response

Vailani: Lt. Imril? How big is that tank exactly?

Storm:  Find your new stride.

The Tactical Officer apparently wasn’t concerned about the purple mess that had just entered the track. Did she know something, ‘cause she was a Betazoid? Very possible, but that didn’t change the obvious issue.

K’Wara: A ‘stride’ isn’t going to help much with this situation.

They watched as, thankfully, it didn’t turn out the purple creature was of any actual danger to Roy and Ava, though it was difficult telling from this distance what exactly was going on with it. Was it... Frolicking?

K’Wara: Roy just can’t help but have running buddies.

Vailani/Imril: Response

K’Wara: ::grins:: It must be his social nature. But it’s certainly not helping the fact that Ava’s got a massive lead right now.

Storm: Match her pace—you’ve got the longer stride!

Alexandra’s optimism was admirable.

Vailani/Imril: Response

Alex leaned over now, her voice quieter as she stopped cheering to ask a question.

Storm: How much of a chance do you think he’s really got?

Imril/Vailani: Response

K’Wara: That big of a lead this early on isn’t encouraging, at least. ::looks around:: I hope he gains a bit though. There’s nothing as exciting as a close race with a photo finish at the end.

Imril/Storm/Vailani: Response

K’Wara: Yeah... ::chuckles:: I wonder where that thing came from?

Imril/Storm/Vailani: Response

Any: Response
