(( Holodeck 4, deck 3, USS Artemis-A ))

Jaseb entered the holodeck with a cup of his precious coffee in hand. CPO Ral with CPO Kaz'Orah was already present, as this training was mainly their gig. Jaseb itself had basics from the Academy, enough training on the topic to know what to expect, still the idea of what the trainees will go through was a little terrifying.

Chevalier: Chief?

CPO Ral turned to a newcomer as she almost completed a gear check before the training and nodded to ensign with her unwelcoming face disturbed from the work. CPO Kaz'Orah was more welcoming.

Kaz'Orah: We are almost prepared, sir. Program was checked and generated by your specifications, we even managed to implement all CPO Ral's adjustments you approved.

Jaseb looked at CPO Ral thinking when he approved “changes” but he decided to let it go, as he would basically in these days sign on your hand if you would leave your hand on his table a second too late. Yeah, he was definitely looking forward to ACOO's return from Betazed and return to his more standard duties.

Chevalier: Good to hear we are on track, Chief Kaz. Not I would expect anything else from both of you. Continue duties.

Both CPOs returned to the gear check, while ensign Chevalier let a stool materialized and he sat down, reading the simulation parameters and checking if everything is covered and what CPO Ral's changes are, now, when he finally had a time to read what he actually signed.

Hour later ))

Eight teams of four – an officer with three enlisted – sorted out and lined up for the exercise briefing, were standing present in their class C uniform. Jaseb was nervous, as he was the one supervising and in the end responsible for this exercise, but it was too late for him to back away. So, he stood next to Ral and Kaz'Orah, looked stern, and let CPO Ral make the introduction.

Ral: Welcome spacers at the advanced firefighting and emergency procedures training. I'm Chief Ral Shaw, and I will be your evaluator. This training has two main parts. First, you learn how to fight the fire, if automatic fire suppression systems failed. Second part will teach you evacuation protocols and your duties as an officers and NCOs during ship-wide evacuation. So, we began with the first part - You all were trained at the Academy with basics, but this is reality. You serve on the Starfleet vessel, so now look left and right on the people around you. Those are your colleagues, which depends on you, as much you depend on them. I would like to appreciate you, who are not from OPS nor Engineering, for your the content of this exercise is not your daily bread. However, don't expect any relief, because every Starfleet spacer is a firefighter, as a fire does not know the difference of division you serve. Fire will not ask, fire will burn. Four teams to my left, for the first round, you are the rescue squad. For teams to my right, you are the primary assault firefighter squad. Second round will be the same task - put out the fire, save the people, but the environment will change, as will your assignments.

Jaseb stepped forward.

Chevalier: As you know your assignments for the first part of the exercise, behind you on the wall are lockers with your DC Environment suits. Those who are there voluntarily, remember, if you are in an emergency, if you are called into FFS duty, search for this locker at any damage control, engineering or OPS station. You can now check and dress into the suit before the situation briefing. Remember your training, people. Check it thoroughly, check it with each other with your team. Make sure all systems are nominal and your suit is sealed, you have enough oxygen and the fire suppressant tank is full. You have ten minutes. Dismissed.

Jaseb watched as people split up to their lockers and began checking their gear. He took a deep breath. CPO Ral turned to her and nodded at him with understanding. He obviously didn't disappoint her. At least not that much as she expected, Jaseb guessed.

Teen minutes later ))

Jaseb finished the check of CPO Kaz'Orah's suit when the chronometer signaled ten minutes passed. He confirmed that everything was ok with CPO Kaz'Orah and they both joined CPO Ral to give an exercise briefing to trainees.

Kaz'Orah: Now when you dress up, we will brief you about the situation, which you will be facing in the first scenario. You can then ask your questions on the scenario. Chief Ral?

Chief Kaz stepped back as Chief Ral stepped forward.

Ral: After the gear check, Rescue team one and two with Assault teams three and four will enter the door to the cargo elevator behind you. You will be transported to simulation of deck 6. Information about the situation on deck 6 is sparse. Red Alert was declared and deck 6 was hit. DC transmitted twenty seven people present on the deck still alive, seven members of Starfleet and twenty civilians. Automatic systems on the deck are down, but emergency systems were able to secure the computer core and cut off the deck as protection before the fire spread to other parts of the ship.

Behind CPO Ral appeared the board with deckplan as she turned and started to show individual sections.

Ral: Plasma induced fire already swallowed OPS and most of the Tactical. Now continue through the EPS conduits, corridors and jefferies tubes here, and continue to enlisted and civilian quarters. Assault Three, your task is to suppress the fire enough to enable Rescue One to search Tactical for survivors. Rescue One and Two, apart from the search for victims and survivors, your task is to secure the hull against the structural collapse in the sectors of your intervention. Assault Four, your task is fire suppression in sectors nine and ten, and protect Rescue Two as they proceed with the evacuation and search through the quarters.

Assault teams, suppression hoses are located here, here, here and here. Rescue team, on the same locations you find emergency force field emitters to secure the hull against the collapse.

Remember. This is real situation training. Safeties are semi-off. You cannot be suffocated by smoke and toxic vapors, your bones cannot break, you cannot burn. But you will feel the fire, if you will be exposed and your suit fails. You will feel the pain, if you make a mistake and get under structure collapse. Stay low for better visibility through smoke. Be aware of your surroundings, and your teammates.
