(( Chief Science Officer’s Office — Deck 9, USS Artemis-A ))

Even with Dr. Meyers… reassurances, Gnai still felt quite terrified packing up all the files on its condition, along with the doctor’s note stating her recommendations, onto a PADD to give to Lt. Cmdr. Jovenan. She had been very approachable throughout the time that Gnai had served with her aboard the ship, but this request felt different to anything else that it had asked of her. Would she be amenable to the suggestion from Dr. Meyers? Was there truly a place for it in the science department to remain aboard the ship with no duties off of it? It couldn’t tell, and that worried it greatly.

With a quick signal at the door, Gnai announced its presence nervously, hoping that she was free to meet. It probably could have, and should have, requested an appointment… but that felt too final somehow. Too formal, like it was expecting to be dismissed from duty.

Gnai: Hello, Commander Jovevan? It’s Gnai.

Jovenan: Response

It entered the office, PADD in its suit’s mechanical hands. With a good deal of effort, it calmed down its tendrils.

Gnai: Hello sir, this just wanted a chance to talk with you briefly about its role in the department…

Jovenan: Response

Gnai handed the PADD over to her, with the doctor’s note already pulled up. She’d recommended that it be reassigned to duties that kept it aboard the ship, as there was a great deal of evidence that the stressors of away teams were causing it physiological damage. Each statement was linked to a file, by Gnai of course, to back up the letter with hard evidence if Lt. Cmdr. Jovenan had been curious. It knew she’d believe the letter, but it never hurt to cite everything, as had been pounded into Gnai’s mind at the Academy.

Gnai: Thank you, sir. ::gesturing to the PADD, speaking quickly:: Recently, this started to notice… adverse physical and mental reactions to away team missions, and being off the ship in general. Doctor Meyers did a physical and has recommended that this be removed from the roster of potential away team members. ::pause:: More information is on the PADD, as is her note on the stress.

If it got all of the information out at once, it couldn’t take any of it back, so Gnai raced through its prepared explanation. It needed to get this done, even if it was worried.

Jovenan: Response
