(( Main Engineering - Deck 16, USS Artemis-A ))
It was with great apprehension that Gila entered Main Engineering that day. She’d been going over the working roster for the new sensors on the shuttle, the USS Galaktoboureko, in preparation for the Laoi System Survey she was heading on later that week. She had some questions about the interplay the sensors might have with the medical transporters she would be using to collect biological samples from the fourth planet in the system, but finding one of the participating engineers that she could ask was proving... Difficult.
The lead on the project was Lieutenant Minthar, a Miradorn male, and while Gila had never encountered him in a professional capacity before, she had had to perform routine health checks on his twin, Petty Officer Raidar, and if she had to describe the experience in one word it would be ‘harrowing’. As a supremely nervous and very anxious pacifist, Gila had certain species she simply did not, and likely would never, understand. Klingons were, of course, one of the primary examples to come to mind, another was the Miradorn.
They were like more Klingon Ferengi, and that was a combo that both alienated Gila - who found the Ferengi culture an extremely fascinating one for study - and deeply terrified her. For this reason precisely, Gila was actively meandering about in Main Engineering, trying to locate a familiar face from the personnel list of Engineers who’d been slated to work on the sensors, who did not look like Lieutenant Minthar.
Actively looking for something to avoid, of course, inevitably meant that Gila was not looking where she was walking, and she ended up tripping over a long pair of legs that were, for some reason, splayed out the floor.
Sadar: Oh! No no no no. ::wrings hands anxiously:: I-I’m sorry, are you okay?
Tho’Bi: Response
Now that the Andorian looked at her, Gila recognized him from the personnel files that had been forwarded to Sickbay from the Academy. He was one of their most recent Ensigns, just recently arrived from the SB118 Campus.
Sadar: Ah, yes, uhh... H-Hello Ensign. I’m Doctor Sadar. ::pauses:: I-I’m sorry for interrupting your work in, uhh, such a... Kinetic manner?
Tho’Bi: Response
As the pressing issue of her business in Main Engineering was brought up, Gila’s fingers automatically twitched in search of the black anxiety band which adorned her one ring finger, but she resisted the urge. It had become increasingly clear to her that Ensigns relied on their senior officers to show a modicum of confidence, and while the notion of her displaying confidence was ridiculous to anyone who truly knew her, she couldn’t fail Ensign Tho’Bi this soon into his posting.
There would be time enough for that later.
Sadar: Ah, well, I’m... I’m looking for someone to answer some questions about the new sensors that were installed on the USS Galaktoboureko... Uhh. One of our shuttles. ::slight pause:: I-I don’t suppose you’ve heard anything about the project yet?
Tho’Bi: Response
