(( Karnack Crashsite - Callis I ))
To say that Tamio had been delighted to see the rest of the crew was an understatement. While they did feel a certain kind of kinship had developed between themself and Jo, Roy and Ollie - a week with only each other for company tended to do that - Ava was a sight for sore eyes, and seeing Jo’s reaction to Lt.Cdr. Silveira’s appearance made for very interesting viewing. It had taken just over a day of rest for Ava’s team to recover enough to get back on their feet, and barely had they done so, before the crazy woman said they needed to do it again.
Tamio didn’t like it. Ava hadn’t shared much of her theories about the transporter and the ‘uncomfortability’ those transported had experienced, but Tamio knew it was nothing good.
It was all forgotten now though. After resting in the city on the other side of the transporter network for a day - one horrible day, where Tamio could swear they were going delirious with pain and exhaustion all at once, and frankly - they’d made for the warp core power signature that Tamio had registered.
If they thought Addison MacKenzie had been a sight to behold in her ready room, the experience of seeing her greet them from the crashed Karnack - an expression on her face like she was disappointed it’d taken them this long - was something else entirely.
(( Main Engineering - Deck 4, USS Karnack ))
Tamio ought to be distraught at how quickly the entire group - 14 of the Artemis senior staff, including the two new Ensigns whose very first mission had been the escorting of the Karnack - adjusted right back to Starfleet decorum. A week was a long time to be isolated, with nothing but your own wit and training to survive. It was nothing compared to the grueling experience of going through Starfleet Academy for four years.
Most of the rest of the crew seemed no worse for wear - at least not in any way that was visible under a week’s worth of fatigue and grime - and as Captains always did, Captain MacKenzie saw that as a sign that they were all fit and ready to work.
oO How heartwarming a reunion Oo
As far as Captain MacKenzie’s idea to escape aboard the Karnack was concerned? Well, it wasn’t impossible. The warp core and the nacelles were functioning Faraday Cages in their own right, but the rest of the Karnack wasn’t, and that was a rather large and urgent issue that needed to be corrected if they were to have any chance of escaping Callis I aboard it.
MacKenzie: Response
Munro: Getting the shield emitters to mimic the properties of a Faraday Cage long enough to get us out of the system is going to be no mean feat. Especially since we have no operational systems. But I think we can do it - if we can figure out a way to replicate the Faraday Cage effectively. Brexis, Bergmen, Breys, we'll need your help getting this set up.
Bergmen/Brexis/Breys: Response
Tamio looked at the three chosen to accompany the Captain and Ava on this task. It was a big ask, and while Tamio hadn’t been the Chief of Operations very long, they had every confidence that Ollie and Charlotte would meet expectations. There was no other option, if any of them were to escape this planet in one piece.
MacKenzie: Response
Munro: That's true. Even if the shield emitters work, we won't get far with the Karnack in this state.
A fair observation, given that Tamio was currently able to see the Callisian evening sky through a ruptured piece of hull.
Jovenan/Silveira: Response
Munro: Agreed. Bring Storm, Bancroft and Syn with you, and get those holes fixed. But be careful, the Things are still out here, and as it gets dark, they'll get more daring.
MacKenzie: Response
That was the other thing - the time constraint. Tamio hadn’t known, as they’d spent the entire week inside of a cliff where there was little difference between day and night, but the others had shared their knowledge that the Things had a higher activity level during the night. Which meant they had just a couple of hours, at most, before the Karnack wreck would be crawling with them.
K'Wara: We won’t get very far with Main Engineering in this state, either, Sirs. While the warp core is stable, it’s hardly safe for use at the moment.
Ava seemed to agree.
Munro: In its current state the warp core power distribution would likely cause a cascade failure. We're more likely to blow up the ship and this corner of the planet than get off this planet. Tamio, work with Imril to find a workaround, I don't think I need to tell you how important it is :: pauses :: Cole and Jaran, you're temporarily reassigned as technicians :: smiles :: Congratulations.
Tamio nodded, looking towards Imril, Natasha and Jaran. They would get this done. Apart from Imril, none of the team could be considered experienced engineers, or even engineers at all, but their workforce was limited.
Cole/Jaran: Responses
((( OOC: As Cmdr. Munro stated, everyone feel free to have short reunion scenes before segueing off to your teams. )))
With the teams divided, Tamio reached out to pat Roy’s shoulder - a farewell, for now - before walking to Natasha and Charlotte.
K’Wara: I’m glad to see you’re both alright. ::smiles:: Despite the circumstances.
Cole/Brexis: Response
So Captain MacKenzie’s group were the reason they found crashed pods in the city. Considering how many encounters the other teams had had with the Dark Things, Tamio had come to think that their Cliff hideout had been the safest place on the planet. Certainly more depopulated.
Which, unfortunately, sounded probable, if Ava’s theories held true.
K’Wara: I’ll hold you to that. I’m not quite ready to put down roots here yet. ::slight grin:: Too drab.
Cole/Brexis: Response
They would get this done, or die trying... And hope was dreadfully hard to kill, as evidenced by the expressions on the rest of the crew as they left Main Engineering to go do their tasks. Tamio nodded at those remaining, placing their palms on their hips. It didn’t feel comfortable though - they didn’t know how all those redshirts looked so competent doing this - and they immediately removed their hands again, shaking their head.
K’Wara: Imril, do we have an estimate on how much of Main Engineering is functional beyond the warpcore?
Imril: Response
K’Wara: ... We’re going to have to be conservative for now. ::looks around:: The only working consoles that I can see are the ones on the nacelle access. ::considers:: Natasha, if we use your security codes to trigger the quarantine forcefield around Engineering, do you think we can alter that to be more Maelstrom-resistant?
Cole: Response
K’Wara: It’ll have to do. We just need it to work long enough for us to make more permanent fixes. ::to Jaran:: I know you’re hurt, Doctor, but there’s quite a lot of work to do. You’re up for it, I hope?
Jaran: Response
K’Wara: ::grins:: All right then. ::to everyone:: We’re on a time crunch. The other teams’ efforts depend entirely on us being able to get proper power running through the Karnack, and this is where we start. Let’s get to it.
Imril/Cole/Jaran: Response
