(( First Officer’s Office - Deck 2, USS Artemis-A ))

Frontier Day had shaken up everyone in the Alpha Quadrant. That much was readily apparent to Vhysa’lia, who had the deeply unfortunate luck of being aboard one of the ships caught up in the crisis. She’d avoided any assimilation, thankfully, working with some of the other passengers (not that there had been many, but there were a scattered few visiting low-level bureaucrats and scientists coming back from the Delta Quadrant for the festivities) and enlisted to defend themselves, acting as a de-facto medic in the chaos. Treating the wounded under fire was certainly stressful, but it was also a tad exciting having to work in subpar conditions under the clock.

In the aftermath, they’d disembarked what was left of the USS Kitty Hawk, and immediately ran (well, walked briskly) to the nearest Starfleet Enlistment Officer. Vhysa’lia had seen firsthand the incredible loss of life from the Borg, and it was obvious to them that Starfleet needed more qualified hands in their sickbays and counseling offices. As someone heavily involved in the Kobali government’s reanimation and reacclimatization process, she had years and years of experience in both medicine and counseling (which she had been intending to offer to Starfleet originally anyways).

The chaos, however, pushed up their timetable significantly. Now, instead of applying for the Academy, and experiencing the life of a cadet (and showing the other cadets that the Kobali were nothing to be feared, as change starts from the bottom), she was going to enlist directly and join up with a ship as soon as possible. The other option that they had considered was applying to be part of an official officer exchange (or loan, or whatever the proper term would be, as Vhysa’lia was fairly certain that there wouldn’t be many Starfleet officers clamoring to go join up with the Kobali as the inverse of her exchange). But that would have taken more time, and it wouldn’t have fixed the immediate problem that she saw. The Federation, and thus Starfleet, were deeply wounded, and they needed all the help they could get to staunch the bleeding.

So, Vhysa’lia soon found herself posted to the USS Artemis, pinning a provisional crewman’s lozenge to her collar, and taking control of a counseling office for the time being. They could help out the Federation from here, and improve relations with their people, the Kobali, at the same time.

But it still felt like they weren’t doing enough. She saw patients every so often, and mingled with the lower decks and enlisted members of the crew, but she missed working in a sickbay, and the privileges that her (albeit, not very high) rank had allowed her back with the Kobali. Perhaps it was a little selfish, but it was also something she had intended to do from the start, so Vhysa’lia had requested a meeting with the new Executive Officer aboard the ship, hoping to finish the process of properly becoming an officer.

And now there they were, at the door to the First Officer’s Office (a pleasing phrase to say, they’d realized, when calling for it on the turbolift). Vhysa’lia pulled a smile onto her face, and alerted the XO to her presence via a door chime.

Munro: Response

With her acknowledgement, Vhysa’lia entered the room, still grinning widely, giving Lt. Cmdr. Munro a nod of her head.

Vhysa’lia: Hello, and welcome to the Artemis, commander. ::holding their hand out to shake it:: It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.

A handshake was a good way to start a conversation, and they hoped that the familiar gesture would go a long way towards a first impression. Best to make herself appear as human (or whatever species the person she was talking to was) as possible at first with anyone, she’d found so far. The weird “oh yes, I died about a decade back, it’s not contagious” talk could happen later, if at all.

Munro: Response

She sat in the chair opposite the desk, folding her hands over the PADD that she rested in her lap and crossed her legs.

Vhysa’lia: Yes, sir, that’s correct. I’ve been serving as a temporary counselor here since… stardate 240109 point 06 I think?

Munro: Response

They nodded, still smiling.

Vhysa’lia: Yes, I thought it would be best to join up as soon as possible. ::sigh, and then a light laugh:: Of course, now my situation is more complicated, as I'm sure you've seen in the PADDwork I've submitted to you… But it seemed prudent to just roll up my sleeves and help save lives at first, rather than waste time getting this officer exchange PADDwork sorted out.
