(( Mysterious Facility - Underground, Breetia Township, Galaris IV ))
Most humanoids were creatures of habit: they liked a certain amount of predictability in their lives. This was why many kids acted out when plans were changed or their daily structures were altered. Predictability was a core element of how to make humanoids feel at ease and safe in a universe where chaos was the norm, and the uncertainty of tomorrow was the only certainty.
Perhaps this was the reason Gila felt so uneasy as she and the two Ensigns walked into the underground facility that Ensign Bancroft had accidentally unearthed beneath Breetia. Despite the fact that she knew very little about the Grunden, and even less about the Kobyar, her every neuron was certain of one thing and one thing alone: that this place was entirely out-of-place, and that unpredictability made her anxious.
Cole: ::flipping her Tricorder open:: Confirmed, two faint lifesigns.
Another twist to the narrative, and Gila felt her cheek folds flare in quiet fear.
Sadar: That’s... Okay. Ph- ::deep breath:: Ph-Phasers out. Ensign Bancroft, Ensign Cole got hurt in the explosion before. Check her shoulder.
She had a phaser, as did Ensign Bancroft, but knowing her own skill at wielding one, and presuming Ensign Bancroft’s to be of a similar skill-level, she’d feel much better if Ensign Cole was able to use hers to full effectiveness.
Bancroft: You know, Cole, if you wanted more quality time, you didn’t have to go and get your shoulder blown up. ::scanning the results on his tricorder:: No bleeding, no fractures – just some soft tissue trauma near the joint. I can dull the pain, but we need a Sickbay for a proper repair.
Gila felt her one foot land unevenly on the ground, and she gritted her teeth slightly.
Cole: ::slowing to a near stop:: Appreciate the patch job. Let’s save the romantic getaway to Sickbay for someone who buys you drinks first.
Gila chose to ignore the breach in propriety and ethics to focus on the fact that their Security Officer was, in fact, able to continue without a serious injury posing a hindrance to her phaser usage.
Sadar: Good... W-We’ll be seeking out those lifesigns first. Ensign Cole, take point.
Ensign Cole walked further ahead of the two Doctors, her eyes alert as they walked down the monotonous hallway.
Cole: Not exactly tourist-friendly design, either we’re being herded or whoever built this had a thing for serious minimalism.
Bancroft: ::dryly:: Love what they’ve done with the place. Early doomsday chic.
Sadar: Don’t let your guard down... ::examines the design language:: It’s, uhh... Definitely not Grunden. B-But it doesn’t align e-exactly with what, ehm, our databases have on Kobyar design either... It’s certainly closer though.
What did that mean in context though? Had the Kobyar built this facility underneath Breetia as a secret base? But when? And how? Breetia seemed like an OLD town, and certainly older than this facility. Had the Grunden done it then, further showing the disconnect between the military technological level and the one accessible to civilians? No, Gila didn’t suspect so. Did it predate the two cultures then?
Ensign Cole led them into a circular chamber with a round console in the very center of the room, a large round screen set into the flat surface of the dais. The three officers approached the circular console, taking care to not touch it, and Gila pulled out her tricorder as a reflex.
Bancroft: ::eyeing the console warily from a distance:: I don’t know what that says, but I’m pretty sure it’s not “welcome, honored guests.”
Cole: Well, that’s not ominous at all. ::peering at the screen attempting to read the screen:: Does this language look familiar to either of you? ::stepping back::
Gila frowned, analyzing the screen itself. It was difficult to tell when you couldn’t read the language, but it didn’t seem like the glyphs were intended to spell out any meanings. Their arrangements were too haphazard and fleeting for that, and as best as she could tell, no ‘program’ seemed to be running. And it certainly wasn’t in standby mode...
Sadar: ... I’m not sure if it's language at all. There’s no seeming linguistic cohesion or syntax. And this screen... It doesn’t look like anything that’s been on public display in New Kehixa. ::to Bancroft:: Are the lifesigns still registering?
Bancroft: Response
Gila frowned. Well, at least that meant they weren’t in likelihood of getting ambushed, but she didn’t like loose ends, particularly in a situation such as this where questions were the norm and answers were few and far between.
Cole: I’d say this would add some credence to the outside influence claims, don’t you Lieutenant?
Sadar: It’s too early to say for sure, Ensign, but it’s certainly curious-
The screen suddenly changed colors, the green gradually brightening into teal, then to blue and the glyphs started flickering at an increased rate as the console started humming. Gila took a step back in response, her tricorder held up almost like a physical shield between her and whatever the console was doing.
Sadar: What happened?
Cole/Bancroft: Response
She raised a hand in warning, not wanting any of the Ensigns to disturb the console. Meanwhile, she looked at her tricorder, cycling through the different settings until she found one that could tell her more of what was going on. And what she saw was puzzling.
Sadar: It’s... Receiving a signal? And... Distributing it.
Cole/Bancroft: Response
Gila shook her head.
Sadar: I’m... Not sure. It’s difficult to tell where it’s going. ::beat:: But I can say where it’s coming from: not planetside. ::quiet breath:: Seems we have the ‘credence’ you spoke of, Ensign Cole. And more.
Cole/Bancroft: Response
