(( Race Track - Kerrit Dromos, City One, Rylor ))
Tamio was certain it looked like a strange gathering of people who’d convened around the Kerrit Dromos track. Obviously, as soon as Tamio had gotten word of this, they had to attend. Not only did they feel a sort of emotional obligation to show up in support of Ava, who did very much strike them as a competitive sort, but there was also a certain aesthetic allure to witnessing a race such as this in person. Not only would it make for wonderful entertainment, but Tamio was also not immune to the inherent value of sweaty athletes.
The reveal of an intense betting culture amongst the Artemisians was also a welcome bonus, even if Tamio wasn’t exactly wowed by the offerings. Captain Proton figurines, the entire Rainbow Horga’hn collection and a modest album of covert photos of the MacKenzieBot.
Wait, no, that last one had merit.
Vailani: Response
Tamio did try not to startle as though they’d been caught doing something improper - which they hadn’t, honestly, and last they checked, Vailani Zoyara wasn’t a telepath so she’d have no evidence even if they hadn’t - but something in the taciturn Bajoran’s voice seemed to trigger an automatic guilt response.
Dreadful power, that.
K’Wara: ::innocent smile:: And good to see you too, Lieutenant Vailani. Here to spectate?
Vailani: Response
K’Wara: Please, sit with me. I think they’re about to start.
Tamio hastily picked a seat close-ish to the track itself and waved excitedly at Ava as they did so. Obviously, she was already in trash talk-mode. Once a competitive athlete, always a competitive athlete.
Munro: :: deadpan :: Bancroft.
Bancroft: Response
Tamio took a drink of the lemon cider, smirking slightly as they noted the crew making their hurried final bets somewhere behind them.
And it fell to Tamio to run interference.
K’Wara: Obviously, Ava has this in the bag. Not even a question. What do you figure?
Vailani/Any: Response
Ava herself knew she was probably the favorite to win, or at least her own favorite, given the confidence in her expression.
Munro: You can forfeit if you like? I'm not sure your dignity would remain intact but it's an option. If you're not ready?
Bancroft/Munro: Response
Tamio watched as the racers got ready to begin, and a grin spread on their face as the excitement turned from hectic pre-race socializing to the tenser and more subdued excitement of the crew taking their seats, their eyes focused on the two competitors.
Kerrit Dromos was a massive track, evidently intended to be used for larger events than this private gathering, but there was something delightfully romantic about the empty space. This wasn’t a massive commercial event with no roaring fans - it was just two runners facing each other down for the love of the game.
