to USS Artemis-A – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((USS Artemis, USS Galaktoboureko))
Vitor nodded and he smiled. Slowly he got the shuttle raised and smoothly they moved forward. He was careful and focused, but it was always a memorable moment when the shuttle left the bay and they were actually crossing space.
The brightness of the stars, the lighting from the Artemis, the vastitude of the black sea made him use his catch phrase as they slid away from the ship.
Silveira: Here we go, opening sails.
Morgan: Like riding a bike, eh Vitor?
Gnai: Response
Vitor plotted the course as navigated slowly, eyes forward and with a wide smile
Silveira: Alright everyone this is your pilot speaking, keep your seatbelts fastened until further notice, and enjoy the ride.
Gnai: Response
Vailani: :: to Gila :: We've arrived at the departure coordinates. Clear of the Artemis’ warp bubble.
He looked at Sada before punching into warp.
Sadar: Sil-net, Warp 5 to the Laoi system, please.
He speeded up the shuttle when he reached a safe distance, and made a sharp turn as he adjusted their course.
Silveira: Get ready to warp.
Imril: Matter-antimatter matrix initialized. FTL drives ready.
Gnai: Response
Morgan: ::to himself:: Just like riding a bike.
Vitor nodded, he thought he heard something from Morgan but he shrugged and leaned back, as he punched in the control and the Galaktoboureko warped.
((( Time Skip: One week later )))
(( In Space - Laoi System, Minos Korva Sector, Alpha Quadrant ))
It had been a week since they left and although they had taken some time to get acquainted, Vitor chose to rechristen Vai as Zoy.
It hadn’t been bad, but admittedly he was missing Nan. But as he recalled the reason for this escapade he smiled.
((Flashback: Before starting this mission but after arriving on Risa))
((Risa, outside Stone’s residence))
Vitor stood in blue shorts, gold tactical t-shirt and moccasins, just at the doorstep of his grandparents house. He hit the doorbell and let the Ding-Dong echo through the inside.
He could hear his grandmother's muffled voice from the inside.
K. Stone: Hmmph… It's open… Damn you're hard…
Vitor raised an eyebrow. Knowing from past experience he rang the doorbell again, instead of just storming inside. This time his grandmother shouted.
K. Stone: WAIT, WAIT, I’M COMING, I’M COMING
Vitor closed his eyes and face palmed himself. Now he definitely wasn’t opening that door anytime soon. He heard some thumping noise and he took a deep breath. A few seconds later he started hearing footsteps. He tipped his head and was reaching to the door as his grandmother opened it.
With flour stains all over her, there was even a white streak on her right cheek, Gadma Karen, as he called her, opened her arms once she saw him.
They had been together after Frontier Day, back at the Silveira’s place in Portugal, but being united again meant the usual bear hug, even if he was now the Bear, overwhelming the small frame of the old woman.
Still he was soon smeared with flour as they tightly hugged.
K. Stone: Vivi… It’s so good to see you my dear… What are you doing here?
Silveira: We are on shore leave here, but I don’t have much spare time. Still I had to visit home.
Karen kissed twice each of his cheeks and grabbed his arm, smearing it with flour.
K. Stone: Good, awesome, I am going to invite your colleagues…
Vitor rolled his eyes. There it was, the over welcoming Stone touch.
Silveira: Gadma… Please, we are still working and I don’t mind being embarrassed by you but others…
Completely ignoring his words Karen dragged Vitor inside as she started talking quicker than any torpedo fire sequence he ever fired.
K. Stone: Nonsense, if you don’t want the whole crew I will just go for the top brass then. I want to meet that Captain of yours and make sure she is treating you right? Also, do you have a girlfriend? A boyfriend? You're always avoiding telling me that. Are you eating properly? I was just making the dough for bread. How long are you staying? We have spare rooms, do you want us to invite them over? I know we get the tents up. That’s it, and we have a beach dinner. Oh look at you, why don’t you grow back your beard, it made you look more attractive…
By then Vitor and Karen had already made it to the kitchen. In the counter was the huge ball of dough that Karen had been working on. Vitor was now completely ignoring his grandmother as she hardly stopped, even for breathing…
((End Flashback))
Zoy’s voice called him back to reality.
Vailani: Approaching on vector 2, 5.
Vitor nodded, checking the helm.
Silveira: Roger Zoy
Sada stepped between them as the others gave sign of presence.
Morgan: Are we there yet?!
Gnai: Response
Sadar: ::forced excitement:: Okay! It’s time to get our testing underway! ::to Ensign Imril:: How’s the data on the solar radiation coming in, Ensign? Are the sensors working to parameters?
Vitor kept an attentive look on the flight controls, it would fall on the others to work as he flew.
Imril: Sensors working to spec. They’re getting plenty of data, Doctor. Directing all of it to Lieutenant Gnai’s station.
Gnai: Response
Vitor raised his eyebrow, as he followed the course.
Silveira: Flight plan secured, getting closer.
Vailani: Reconfiguring the shield modulation. A variance of 0.16. As long as the radiation stays within that range then the shuttle's systems should remain operational.
Imril: Metaphasic shield projectors operating at 100 percent capacity. We’re good for approach to the star.
Morgan: ::tapping his console:: Looks like biological sample containers are intact and ready.
Gnai: Response
Vitor didn’t had much more to add, so he kept quiet as they got closer. Zoy stood up to join Imril. Vitor narrowed slightly his eyes and considered for a moment to increase the viewscreen shielding, so they wouldn’t be blinded by the brightness of the star.
Vailani: The shields are holding. If we adjust the sensor by 0.8 we might increase the depth :: turns to Gnai :: Lieutenant Gnai we'll try to give as much power to the sensors as we can but we need to maintain structural integrity.
Imril: Zero-point-eight adjustment ready on your order. I don’t foresee any issues on the engineering end of things from such a small modulation. ::Points to a section of the engineering panel, a series of sliders all at or near 100%.:: I’m keeping an eye on hull integrity on this panel here. If it starts to fail, I’ll be sure to let everyone know.
Vitor smiled and tipped his head.
Silveira: I would very much appreciate that.
Gnai/Sadar/Vailani: Response
Imril: I’m also watching the systems most likely to be impacted by proximity to solar radiation first. I recommend we start testing the targeting array now, to set a baseline.
Gnai/Sadar//Vailani: Response
Imril: Maybe we should turn up the windshield tinting while we’re at it?
Morgan: ::nodding:: I’d appreciate that.
Vitor nodded and he quickly dropped the brightness, since he had that ready to go if anyone asked.
Silveira: There you go Doc Morgan
Gnai/Sadar/Vailani: Response
Morgan: What kind of samples are we looking for, boss?
Gnai/Sadar/Imril/Vailani: Response
As Morgan addressed Sada, Vitor tipped his head to Imril and Zoy.
Silveira: Do you need me to change course for the array testing?
Vailani/Imril: Response
Vitor nodded and kept his eyes on the helm.
Silveira: Roger that. ::He grinned as he turned to Sada, Gnai and Morgan.:: Captain Sadar, what’s the next action.
Gnai/Sadar/Morgan: Response
Vitor tipped is head and turned back to the viewscreen and helm.
Silveira: Well, to all intents and purposes you are leading the mission, Captain Sadar.
Gnai/Sadar/Morgan: Response
Vailani/Imril: Response
