((Sickbay – USS Artemis-A))
After a few moments of letting Hopper and Richards talk, Genkos gently reappeared at the base of Hopper’s biobed. She remained stable, but was clearly in a fair amount of pain. He looked between the two of them.
Adea: Richards, you have to go. And Hopper, before we start, do you have any questions?
Richards nodded, before giving Hopper a gentle kiss on the forehead. Genkos averted his eyes as he felt he was intruding on a private moment.
Richards: ::Whispered:: I love you.
Genkos moved out of Richards’ way as he started to move away, giving him a curt nod nearby. He moved alongside the biobed, looking at the console. He could see that her heart rate and breathing were increasing, probably due to panic and parting.
Hopper: ::Panicked:: Can’t… breathe…
Genkos tapped a few buttons on the console, injecting her with a few cc’s of a painkiller, which seemed to control her rapid breathing and slowed her heart rate. He then looked her in the eyes, his hands folded over the top of his cane. He could see in her eyes that she had questions.
Hopper: …Awake?
Adea: For now. I will have to put you back under for the procedure. ::he could sense she wasn’t comfortable with that, so held up a hand:: It’s for your safety.
Hopper: Want to… see… What… first?
Genkos raised an eyebrow - she wanted to see the injury? A peculiar request but not completely unexpected. He placed his cane alongside the handle that ran along the head of the bed, before wrapping his hands around them both and giving a slight push. The biobed released from the floor, and he started to move it towards the operating room.
Adea: I can do that for you, but not until we get somewhere private. I will have to cut off your uniform, and I don’t think you want to display that to the general public now, do you?
Hopper: Response
Genkos eyes flicked downwards, and he gave her what he hoped would be a reassuring smile.
Adea: I won’t lie to you, it is bad. If you were a human, I would be having this conversation with your next of kin. But Kraal has done good work, and I should be able to remove the shrapnel with a minimum of fuss.
“Should” being the operative word.
Hopper: Response

"You know, I'm really easy to get along with most of the time, but I don't like bullies and I don't like threats, and I don't like you, Culluh. You can try and stop us from getting to the truth but I promise you that if you do I will respond with all the 'unique technologies' at my command." - Kathryn Janeway
