((Kerrit Dromos Race Track - City One, Rylor))

K’Wara: Final stretch now! ::claps excitedly:: Come on, you two! Don’t slow down now!

Imril kept on cheering, but the result was already known. Inescapable. The winners of Ensign Garlonak’s treasures were already dividing up the spoils with their eyes, and Imril was not going to be among their number. Satan’s Robot would find a home in someone else’s quarters.

Then again, what was losing a wager in an economy where money and the things it could acquire for you didn’t really matter?

Storm: I think he’s finally finding his stride.

Five kilometers were coming to an end, but Roy was going to make it there.

K’Wara whistled as Ava crossed the finish line first, winding down slowly in a demonstration of her experience with this sort of competition. The roar of applause that she won became a push for Roy to finish as well.

Storm: Come on, Roy. ::She side-eyed the other two::  Finish strong.

K’Wara: ::bellows:: Good showing!

Imril: Keep going! Almost there!

Roy crossed the line, initiating a trickle of spectators onto the field which became a flood. The stands all but clearing out to meet the Commander and Doctor where they had come to stop and recover their breath.

Bancroft: I do hope you appreciate how irritatingly competent that performance was.

K’Wara somehow managed to make it past the throng to Ava’s side. Imril likewise moved towards Roy, getting close enough at least to hear the ensuing conversation while Storm actually reached him.

Bancroft: ::faintly, with dry resignation:: Thorough work, Commander.

Storm: Yes, Good job, Commander.  ::Turning to Roy:: What did you do to the fates today?

K’Wara saluted Ava humorously.

K’Wara: A decisive victory, Ava. Congratulations. ::looks to Roy:: And a very strong showing from you, Roy. Great job.

Munro/Any: Response?

Bancroft: ::genuine smile:: Enjoy this, Commander. ::arching an eyebrow:: But do remember… sequels have a way of being far less kind to the original leads.

Munro/Any: Response?

Imril finally worked their way through the crowd to offer Roy a hearty handshake and words of support.

Imril: The ‘adversary’ does tend to come back stronger the second time.

K’Wara: And next time, I’ll definitely be betting.

Imril would be cheering, at least.
