LtJG Jovenan & NPC Dr Tevet Elain – Good influence

Elain: Hello, Genkos. It’s been a long time.
Jovenan was confused by the greeting they received immediately after entering the room. The vet was a Betazoid woman with black hair, perhaps around her and Doctor Adea’s age – again, they were closer in age than one would have assumed – and wearing a lab coat, as one would expect for a doctor in her practise. If she hadn’t said those words, Jovenan wouldn’t have found anything unusual in the situation. She turned to her senior officer, finding him surprised as well.
Adea: Tevet, is that you?
Tevet, the girl from Doctor Adea’s past he had talked about mere minutes ago? That Tevet? The veterinarian didn’t respond to Doctor Adea, but rather turned to Jovenan and offered her hand to shake, a human tradition.
Elain: ::offers hand to Jovenan:: Hello. I’m Doctor Tevet Elain.
Jovenan: ::shakes hand:: Oh. Hello, I’m Jovenan. What a coincidence, he mentioned you just a moment ago!
After greeting the younger woman with what she assumed was customary to her, Tevet turned back her old friend. Genkos’ face had turned entirely red and peered around as if to avoid her eyes. Tevet smirked as Genkos’ embarrassment filled the room like incense.
Adea: Only because the Lieutenant here was asking if I would know anyone around here. Your receptionist recognised my last name… My um, my new last name. I changed it for obvious reasons. I’m sorry, I’m gabbling, how are you? I didn’t expect to see you here!
Tevet snorted amusedly. Despite all the growth and grey curls, the man unexpectedly in her office was still the little boy she once knew. For Jovenan, instead, the reaction was something alien; she wouldn’t have believed that something would make Doctor Adea babble like that.
Elain: ::amused snort:: I am fine, Genkos. I didn’t expect to see you here either until I saw your new name as well. Are you well?
Adea: I’m… well, very well. What are you doing here? Is this your surgery?
Tevet smiled at him. This had to be the first time an owner of her patient questioned what she was doing in her own practise. Especially not before she had actually taken a look on the patient proper yet.
Elain: Yes, it is. Is it really that surprising?
Adea: Response
Elain: Without this place and discussions with you about it, I might not have become a vet. When your father, um, didn’t keep the surgery up anymore and your mother wanted to get rid of it, I volunteered to take it. ::shrugs:: It was something I had wanted since we were kids, so why not?
Adea: Response
Jovenan had stayed quiet, glancing between the two, while they had been talking to each other. This was all new information to her, of course, although it made sense that Doctor Adea could inspire his friends to great things. Still, she was wondering what she should be doing in this situation.
Tevet noticed that she had been ignoring, again, Genkos’ companion, and more importantly, the patient they had brought to her, even if by coincidence. She clapped her hands together, not loudly so she wouldn’t startle the dog, but still in indication of getting down the business.
Elain: ::looks at Toto:: Okay then, let’s take a look at the patient. Toto, right? ::glance at Jovenan and Adea:: Is he both of yours?
Jovenan: Oh, no, he’s Doctor Adea’s only!
Tevet raised an eyebrow. Whatever the relationship between the two was, it was either not what she had initially assumed, or they were weirder than she had anticipated.
Elain: You call each other “Lieutenant” and “Doctor”?
