(( Crater's edge, Tecra, Da'al ))
Tornahd: I... I'm trying to find my family. ::He gestured back in the direction he'd come.:: I met your friends Vito Silver and Genky Adios at the Palace of Culture, but my partner and children weren't in any of the refugee camps or medical tents...
Osuna: Very little is certain at the moment. Communication lines are overwhelmed and local crews are still working throughout the area… You really ought to be waiting for more information in a safe location, sir.
Jones: Are you sure they were in this area? ::trying to give a glimmer of hope:: perhaps they were visiting friends or shopping?
Hiro watched as the newcomer underwent a rollercoaster of emotions. He felt for the stranger, but wished on some level that someone else would show up to deal with him.
Yellir: A lot of this city is incredibly structurally durable, they may have found shelter just in time.
Tornahd: Yes. ::He nodded.:: This is my hope. I was away on business in Vdam when... ::He gestured at the crater.:: I should have- I should have been with them...
Yalu: Responses
Osuna: I’m afraid we’re closing off the crater now in coordination with the local authorities. The crater has been deemed unsafe… We’re not here to enforce those limitations, but I would highly suggest you consider your own health and safety, if you want to be of any help to your family, should you be reconnected.
When the man shook his head this time, Hiro noticed a look of stony determination cross his face. Whatever he'd gone through, he was clearly not about to give up. oO Well, the best of luck to him then. Oo
Jones: Can you think of nowhere else they might have gone?
Tornahd: Kyin-- My partner-- She has an antique book store in Ertas Square. It's poss- Maybe they were there?
Osuna: You’ll have to forgive us… We’re still getting our footing in the area. Whereabouts is that, Mr…?
The man pointed across the crater while giving his answer. Hiro couldn't help but be a little impressed at his ability to multitask under such conditions.
Tornahd: Dusan. Dusan Tornahd. And It's there, just beyond the lip of the crater on the other side. It was an old building, but well built... if they made it into the book cellar in time... Maybe...
"If" was one of the most precarious words Hiro knew. It opened oneself up to a Schrödinger scenario that simultaneously filled a person with hope and dread.
Yellir: ::to Yogan:: that’s right on our path, isn’t it? Forgive me if this isn’t my place, but a slight detour won’t affect our schedule too harshly, won’t it?
Yalu: Responses
Yellir: Mr. Tornahd, it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, I’m Hallia Yellir.
Tornahd: And you as well Hallia ::He shifted gaze to the rest of the group.:: And all of you. I will tell you that most of the people I've encountered today have not been nearly so friendly.
The silent alert buzzed at Hiro's hip. He pulled the tricorder from its holster as he excused himself from the conversation, stepping just outside the group, but within earshot should he be needed.
Yalu/Osuna: Response?
Yellir: I haven’t detected any kind of interference, but our tricorders should boost our chances when we do find something.
Yalu/Osuna: Response?
The readout on the small screen of Hiro's tricorder made no sense. The unknown element in the bond was ... Gallium? This compound shouldn't be possible. There were missing bonds, too many negative forces, yet the initial scan said the polarity was in flux? He tapped a few commands to pull up more details as Tornahd continued speaking with the rest.
Tornahd: There is something I can offer in return. ::Beat.:: I'm the regional logistics coordinator for Turyon Heavy Industries. ::He waved a hand in effort to cut to the chase.:: I can lend you any number of large machinery for the duration. Earth movers, transport sleds... anything. If you can just help me get over there and check.
Yalu/Yellir/Osuna:Response?
Tornahd: I'm not sure, but this crisis seems to have people on edge. I've been accosted a few times just making it this far. I'd truly appreciate the escort.
Yalu/Yellir/Osuna:Response?
oO The bonds appear to have been forced by something ... probably the impact of the meteorite. I don't see any other way to get aerosolized gallium, regardless of what it's bonded too. Oo
Now that the tricorder had something to scan for, Hiro thought it best to get more trained eyes on the situation. He tapped his comm badge while stepping a bit further away.
Jones: =/\= Jones to Ensign Jovenan =/\=
Jovenan: =/\= Response =/\=
Jones: =/\= Would you mind taking a look at something for me? I've detected a molecular compound in the dust that frankly shouldn't exist. It's also behaving weirdly. I'd appreciate your scientific input if possible. =/\=
Jovenan: =/\= Response =/\=
Jones: =/\= Transmitting now. Thanks, Jo. Jones out. =/\=
Hiro walked back to the group, grabbing Commander Yalu's attention.
Jones: ::aside:: Sir, you asked to be apprised of anything abnormal? Well, there's something in the dust - it's not immediately dangerous, but it's a compound that doesn't naturally occur. I'm keeping an eye on it, and asked Ensign Jovenan to have a look.
Yalu: Response
Jones: Yes, sir. ::beat:: Any idea where Mr. Dari went? I figured he'd be back by now.
Yalu: Response
Jones: ::more openly to the group:: So ... do we press on, or wait for Dari?
Yalu/Yellir/Osuna:Response?
