((Briefing Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A))

MacKenzie: It’s still too early to tell, but I’d like to believe that neither side is responsible for what’s happening on your planet. At least, not directly, and certainly not a majority of either of your peoples. Do you have any thoughts on what our findings have shown so far, or information that might lend an aid to our investigations?

Kexxin hung his head low for a moment, vividly remembering Naru’s last moments.

Kexxin: I do…

He reached into his pocket and pulled out the small device he found on Naru.

Kexxin: My Executive Officer. He- he attacked me when we went to find some of your team. He warned me that we shouldn’t go any further into the underground facility Starfleet discovered. His mutiny led to his death. I discovered this on him. I don’t know if it will be helpful or not. Hell, I don’t even know how to turn it on. I’ve never seen anything like it before…

He slid the device towards the Captain.

MacKenzie: This looks like some kind of advanced data storage device or transmitter for the drones, but it looks more advanced than anything I’ve seen the Kobyar use so far…

Richards: ::Skeptically:: You are telling me you didn’t know your own Executive Officer was hiding something like this from you?

He swallowed hard, not appreciative of her tone, but understanding because even he was disappointed with himself for not having any idea about Naru’s secrets.

Kexxin: A traitor is a traitor, I did what had to be done and now I am more unsure of my people than ever before.

Richards: ::To MacKenzie:: Captain, may I suggest we have that device looked at by our Engineers? Imril is probably still dealing with the drone parts. Perhaps Tho’Bi? I know he’s a bit strange, but I think he might be a good fit for helping find out whatever may be on that thing.

MacKenzie: Absolutely.

The Captain held up the device and handed it over to the attache that had been waiting in the corner.

Much to Kexxin’s surprise, Oolwi spoke up, telling her own story of secrets.

Oolwi: I’m sorry to report that there is more than one traitor involved in these events. For those of you who were unaware, the first attack on Breetia has been confirmed to have been ordered by one Grand Marshall Vef-Lai. Who my government had been holding for trial for enacting that massacre. At the same time as the Village, Kobyar capitol and Starfleet teams were attacked, the holding facility where he was being housed was also raided. He was freed and escorted away by persons unknown. One of the guards stationed at his door has also gone MIA. The other is in a morgue dead from a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

MacKenzie: It sounds like this has varying degrees of complications on both sides..

Kexxin sat there dumb-founded at the information being shared.

Kexxin: There is no hope for our planet ::shaking his head:: Naru and now The Grand Marshall?

Cole: We’ve seen conflicts like this before, on Earth, in our own history. When those in power were manipulated by those who profit from the division ::beat:: the damage runs deep. However the fact that you’re both at this table ::tapping her finger on the table:: That’s how things change for the better.

Did Kexxin particularly want to be sitting at that table with the slimy green one? No. But his desire to put an end to the suffering of the entire planet was more important than his dislike for the Kobyar.

Richards: Response

Oolwi: I think we can start calling him Citizen Vef-Lai now. His dishonorable discharge is a matter of formality at this point. He’ll be tried in absentia if he is not recovered. The additional charge of desertion, atop others related to the escape, will seal his removal of rank and status regardless of the other sentences. High Treason carries the death sentence.

The General nodded his head. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but sometimes it had to be done. Paying for your crimes was something that seemed to be an agreement both the Kobyar and Grunden people believed in.

Cole: Have you considered secure containment. No power, no influence, no legacy, no martyrdom. Just a cell and nothing but time to reflect on their life knowing they failed their people. Let history judge them while you build a better world.

Richards: Response

Oolwi: Captain, you said that you believe that neither side is responsible for what’s happening on our world. I think it’s becoming evident that, whoever the ultimate cause is, they are receiving aid, and a lot of it, from Grunden and Kobyar both. We are dealing with a many-headed conspiracy.

MacKenzie: That certainly appears so… And I would say not only in the form of technology, but also in making sure that tensions on both sides remained inflamed.

Everything felt so out of his control. That morning when he woke up, he knew his place. He was General Kexxin. Grunden Warchief. A proud soldier who dedicated his life to serve and protect his people. Just a short while later, it had all fallen apart. He didn’t have words, only an empty stare towards the group in the room.

Cole: We’ve got to ask some hard questions: Who benefits from keeping these sides at each other’s throats? Is this to distract them and possibly us from something?

Richards/Oolwi: Response

MacKenzie turned her attention to Oolwi.

MacKenzie: Major, do you know if your government has any leads as to Vef-Lai’s whereabouts?

Oolwi: Response

Now the woman's attention was on him.

MacKenzie: General, were you able to learn anything more from your former first officer before his death?

Kexxin: The closer we got to the underground facility the more nervous he got. Whatever your team discovered down there, he really didn’t want me to know about. He said, “I couldn’t let you see it. You need to run. They’ll come for you.” ::Throwing his paws up in frustration.:: I don’t even know who they are!

He sat back in his chair with a huff. Captain MacKenzie also sat back in her chair, with much less haste than Kexxin.

MacKenzie: It sounds to me as though the apprehension of Vef-Lai and the analysis of the device provided by General Kexxin may contain two very important pieces of this puzzle. Major, would your government be receptive to assistance from Starfleet to locate your former Grand Marshall?

Oolwi: Response

Kexxin: I can have my people be on the lookout also if you don’t think it would be too suspicious.

He shrugged, not really knowing what to do that might be helpful.

Cole: So, we’re chasing down a traitor with access, motivation, and a head start. Sounds like a Monday.

The humor was appreciated. Keeping the mood light during such a revealing conversation wasn’t easy, but red-headed woman number three, was right.

Richards/MacKenzie/Oolwi: Response

Kexxin: ::Gesturing to MacKenzie and Oolwi:: You two say the word and I can get my top units out and looking for Vef-Lai.

Richards/MacKenzie/Oolwi/Cole: Response

In a small moment of silence, Kexxin glanced around the room, still in awe of the Starship and how stunning it was.

Kexxin: ::Nudging Oolwi:: If things don’t get resolved planetside, want to be a stowaway with me and leave with the Artemis?

He lightly chuckled to show he was mostly joking.

Richards/MacKenzie/Oolwi: Response
