((USS Griffin - On the Way to Kahines II))
Lyara: Alright love birds, if you’re up here you can help out with the navigation.
Filistrien: Of course, Sir.
They both seemed taken aback by the bluntness of her comments, although it was primarily directed at the one actually flirting. However, Ensign Bergmen responded with an attempted glare, but his gaze would not have any effect on her.
She pointed to each of their consoles as a reminder that there is more to do while they talk.
Lyara: I don’t mind if you multitask at least, never said you can’t work and talk.
Alroyo gave a slight wink to the two of them as she turned back to her console to continue piloting and rolled her eyes to herself. She would show mercy in the flirting department, for she was a benevolent overlord of the cockpit.
Filistrien: ::solemn nod:: Communications work rarely lends itself to multi-tasking, Ensign Lyara, but I’ll make an effort.
Bergmen gave her a scowl and turned back to his console. Why he was mad at her expecting a form of decorum she didn’t know.
Bergmen: Aye, cap. As you say - aviate, navigate, communicate.
She had never said that once in her life but at least he was taking her advice to do his job without getting distracted. Alroyo took a sip of her tea and looked out the viewscreen of the stars streaming by.
((Two Days Later - Wallace Colony, Kahines II))
Having finally landed and officially caught up on PADDwork Lyara could finally focus on her mission at hand. Sadly she wouldn’t get much downtime upon landing as they immediately had people to meet and hands to shake, but it was archeological hands to shake, which sounded way cooler than a usual diplomatic meeting.
Their guide was a xindi-primate, Mx Fiell, who had some of the most beautiful braids Lyara had ever seen. She’d have to get the details of her guide’s hair routine. But that was for later, they had colonists to interview and a lay of the land to understand.
Fiell: Ah, you’ll want to speak with Barto and Hazel then. They are the ones who first found the ruin. They’re on Silo duty today, if memory serves, so we should be able to fetch them in quick order.
Bergman: Perfect. Visiting them sounds like a great place to start.
Lyara: Would it be any trouble to show us the way there?
Fiell: It’s no trouble. It can double as a bit of a guided tour for you all. The Klingons have been here a bit longer than you, so they know their way around already. We should get you up to speed.
Lyara nodded to them to lead the way and followed closely. The guide was very polite and always had something nice to say about the landmarks they found along the way. In general the colony had a very loved feeling to it like it was their own little slice of paradise. It shocked her to think it, but the idea of settling down in a colony like this didn’t seem too bad, Klingons and all.
It reminded her of being back home in the Kendra province and the slow way of life many people lived there. Not that it was boring, just a lot easier to keep up with compared to a starship that moved from place to place. And where Klingons were involved it was never that simple, even if they were allied with the Federation there always was a slight tension boiling under the surface. A tension Bergmen seemed to pick up on.
Bergman: ::whispers to Lyara:: They don't seem like the Klingons would bother them much, does it?
Lyara: ::Whispering back:: We are allied with Klingons. And scientists from the Empire tend to be more laid back, we could inquire a little.
Ollie nodded then directly addressed their guide.
Bergmen: Klingons are cutting you some slack? I expected we would meet some of them by now.
Fiell: Not much, I’m afraid. They tend to stick to their Ship when they’re not at the digsite.
Filistrien: They haven’t accepted your kind offer of accommodations within the colony?
Fiell: We are a small colony, and their Ship serves their needs much better than the meager accommodations we can provide.
That tracked in Lyara’s head, if a ship could sustain itself they’d probably stick to their own space. If anything, that made the case the Klingons didn’t want to cause any form of tensions to flare up.
Bergmen: Where does that ship dock? I didn’t see it on the landing pad.
Fiell: They landed closer to the digsite itself. There was an old cargo area not too far a walk from it so we approved them landing there.
That also checked out to her, why land so far away when there’s a suitable spot for them to land at.
Lyara: You’ll have to guide us that way when we get the chance. I’m sure they’d love a visitor.
They approached the silo where a Caitian and older man both dressed in work clothes were on their shift at the silo.
Bergman whispered to Filistrien but must have forgotten Lyara was there as he did not include her in this big decision.
Bergmen: ::whispers:: I believe it's important for us to have a conversation with Mr. Barto and Hazel privately, without our chaperone. Do you agree?
Filistrien: Response
Before Lyara could object to whatever game he was playing, Bergmen slowed down and turned to Fiell.
Bergmen: Looks like we find the place. Thank you, Mr. Fiell.
Lyara shifted uncomfortably at his misgendering of their guide. Part of their briefing was the profile of their guide which stated their gender. Maybe she was taking it a little more personally than she should as she herself also did not identify with her gender at birth. But a glance to the tour guide’s raised eyebrow and displeased expression showed they also were offended by the misgendering.
Fiell: Mister?
Bergmen moved in front of their path in an impairing manner as he wrapped his arm around Fiell and gave a warm smile.
Bergmen: If I may, we planned to go to lunch after the talk with those two gentlemen. Since you’re familiar with the area, could you please help by making a reservation for us at a good restaurant? We would really appreciate it. Once we finish here, we’ll give you a call.
The Xindi tour guide gave an offended look to the Ensign.
Fiell: I’m sure a waiter could give us better accommodations.
Bergmen: Thank you, you are our savior.
He released Fiell from his grip and Lyara watched as they stormed off to find a restaurant. Lyara tried not to give Bergmen another glare as he caught up with the two officers. Even if she was new to the whole “Starfleet” thing, she knew his conduct was not exactly the most polite way to present oneself.
Lyara: ::Whispering to Filistrien:: Can you go accompany our guide? Get a table for six. We'll take the colonists with us. ::Beat:: And get Fiall a drink and give them my personal apologies.
Filistrien: Response
Lyara gave him a weak smile as she let out a sharp sigh and stopped out of earshot of the Caitian and older man. She turned to Ollie and dropped the weak smile as she gave him a more stern look.
Lyara: What the hell was that?
Her question was a little blunt, but definitely was exactly what she wanted to say.
Bergmen: Response
Lyara: Well, the next time you feel the need to make a major decision like that. Consult us first, our guide is here to help us. ::Beat:: And don’t misgender them.
The last part was a little personal but still was important as they could have possibly lost an important ally in their archeological survey.
Bergmen: Response
Lyara turned away from Bergmen and pointed to the settlers.
Lyara: I’ll handle this.
Alroyo approached the silo and gave a polite wave to the two settlers as they stopped their work and walked up to meet her. The Caitian was the first one to walk up to the two officers with the older man behind her. Their demeanor was friendly and gave off that they were expecting company.
Hazel: Afternoon, we were informed you wanted to speak with us?
She nodded to the Caitian and gave her a slight bow as was common with Bajoran greetings.
Lyara: Yes, I’m Ensign Lyara Alroyo and this is my colleague.
She motioned for him to introduce himself.
Bergmen: Response
The Caitian returned the slight bow to Lyara and motioned to herself.
Hazel: I’m Hazel.
The older man stepped forward and offered a handshake to each of them in a classic human greeting.
Barto: And I’m Barto, it’s a pleasure to work with you guys.
Lyara: The pleasure is all mine, we just wanted to know if you wanted to answer some questions over lunch. ::She looked up at the afternoon sky:: Although we’re getting close to supper aren’t we?
Hazel and Barto shared a laugh with Lyara as they denoted the time. The two settlers then looked at each other and shrugged.
Barto: Why the hell not?
Alroyo looked to her fellow officer and shrugged.
Lyara: How’s gagh sound?
Bergmen: Response
She nodded between them and motioned them to follow her to regroup with the rest of their team.
((The Muddy Targ - Kahines II))
Along the way to the restaurant Filistrien and Fiell had picked out, Lyara had enjoyed sharing stories of the farming life and growing up in the fields with Hazel and Barto. As they arrived at The Muddy Targ, a typical Klingon tavern, outside waiting for them was Fiell and Filistrien.
Lyara: Did you get a table?
Filistrien: Response
Lyara: Sounds great! We thought we’d bring company.
Lyara motioned over her shoulder at Hazel and Barto behind her.
Filistrien/Bergmen: Response
