((Alyndra’s Quarters, Compartment 38, Section 13, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))

Gnai: As the most… experienced Artemisian here, perhaps when this recalibration is completed… this can show you both to some of the social spaces on the ship?

Syrex: Yeah, I’d love that! Back home, it took a while for me to get into the ship's social spaces, it would be nice to have a guide.

Gnai bobbled around in it’s tank. Whilst Alyndra watched Gnai in there, she felt slightly bad about referring to Gnai as an “It” and a “That”. However pronoun syntax was different all around the universe, the most important thing was to make sure that Gnai felt respected by Alyndra. Being non-humanoid in a seemingly very humanoid fleet, she was sure to do everything she could to make sure that they felt as free as any Trill, any Andorian.

Gnai: This can be that guide then, for both of you, if this is all said and done…?

Tho’Bi: Y-yes (beat) it would be c-cool to see the ship ::makes a grand sweeping gesture with his hand:: (beat) ::looks at his hand self-consciously:: (beat) ::puts his hand down sheepishly::

Syrex: Yeah, people don’t always realise that check-ups don’t need to end in a bar. I’m nice to them, but I’m their doctor. You know? It’s part of my job. Still, it helped me get into the atmosphere.

Gnai: It took this a… long while to ever go to the ::air quotes:: bar aboard the Artemis. This isn’t really… accustomed to that sort of an environment.

Tho’Bi: Bars can be noisy and busy…

A light seemed to come on behind Tho’Bis eyes. As he turned to Alyndra, gleaming in his own special kind of way.

Tho’Bi: …But good for meeting new people (beat) ::nods more to himself:: I need to get better at that.

Syrex: Oh, for sure! Bars are certainly one thing, but I also really love karaoke! On the stage, the limelight on me. In a way, the audience isn’t there, it's just you and your microphone.

Alyndra put her hand on the young ensigns shoulder.

Syrex: -and you aren’t doing a bad job at meeting new people ::smiles::.

((Outside of Alyndra’s Quarters, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A))

Alyndra left her quarters, following Gnai with the andorian ensign Tho’Bi straggling slight behind.

Gnai: Oh. ::flashing with a bit of apprehension:: This isn’t sure if karaoke is a common practice in Elysium… That’s the ship’s lounge’s proper name.

Syrex: Thank you, I was curious what everyone meant by that name. On the Ronin, we have the 47. At first I thought the Elysium might be some kind of garden… ::Stared confused at one of the wall panels:: or an apothecary…

Gnai: If you want to do karaoke… there’s always the holodeck?

Alyndra smiled at the Galadorian. She thought back to her favourite programme onboard the Ronin. The Nebraskan karaoke bar… It was beautiful. From the carved wooden modelling in the wall that smelled of the ethanol that had long since soaked into the frame of the building, to the scaping mountain landscape view from out of the windows. Every-part of the programme rung from Americas 1990s, or at least the stereotypes the Ferengi who programmed it knew of, sleezy barman and all. Despite that one downside, it was where she discovered karaoke. Where JOPA first formed on the Ronin. Where she discovered the world in which singing could take her. It filled her with a fond nostalgia for a time that had not long since passed, back when she was an ensign alongside all of her friends.

Tho’bi: ::nodding:: Yeah (beat) and the holodeck can be programmed with any song in the Federation database. (beat)  ::stops nodding/starts speed-talking:: And we can adjust temperature, gravity, and air pressure, so the musical notes resonate (beat) and are carried by the air like… ::becomes self-conscious of the techno-babble:: they… would… be… on their… home… plan…ets.  ::tilts head:: (beat)  Sorry. (beat)  Too much techno-babble.

Syrex: Yes, thank you Ensign ::sighs::. I have seen a holo-deck before believe it or not. I’m not that much older than you.

Gnai: There’s also always the arboretum, and the Brew Continuum, they’re both on this deck. ::beat:: Not that this has explored those spaces much. Those could be the first destinations on this ::air quotes with its suit:: tour?

Tho’bi:  Sounds like a plan.  ::smiles::

Syrex: I’d love to see those! We also have a Brew Continuum onboard the Ronin. It would be nice to compare the two.

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response

Syrex: Well, I’m sure that can be arranged! There’s a Klowahkan back home who’s trying to take over one of the mess halls. So that’ll be an experience… ::Chuckles half-heartedly:: Not that I can ever go!

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response

Alyndra’s face turned bright red. Her skin suddenly felt very warm on her face, spreading to the rest of her body.

Syrex: Oh.. It’s nothing, just a minor… Cultural exposure should we say.

Tho’Bi/Gnai: Response
