((The Sadar-Aqila Quarters - Compartment 83, Sector 03, Deck 6, USS Artemis-A))
The Betazoid themed party was only beginning, with suitable decor on the walls, a selection of food designed to fit the theme, and a few of the ship's officers standing around the room in conversation with one another. Tarrik Tarkin had only just joined the festivities.
Tarrik: Thanks, I appreciate the welcome! I love the decorations.
Aqila: :: excited :: Really!? :: catches a breath :: I've been most interested in Clorian Dessai! Do you know them? They use bold colours and shocking imagery to comment on the hierarchical state of Betazoid politics during the renaissance. I've asked Dona if we can visit Betazoid one day :: more shy :: But I'm not taking my clothes off.
Alroyo gave Aqila a little chuckle at his concern.
Lyara: That’s alright you don’t have to take your clothes off. ::Tactfully changing topics:: I do like Dessai, I had a friend who I went to one of their installations with. But recently, I’ve been reading about male artists and their rejection of the matriarchal society and art that reflects that.
Aqila: Response
Lyara: You should check out Irasslem Arai. He’s a bit more up and coming but his art speaks to many from the current generation that’s coming of age. Especially since he breaks gender norms and has been known to do traditionally feminine things.
Aqila: Response
Lyara: I’ll be sure to send you a few paintings your way, I’m sure you’ll love the colors.
Gila approached the pair to introduce one of the newest arrivals to the Artemis. There had been a lot of them lately, including Lyara herself.
Sadar: Ensign Tarkin, this is my nephew, Kolya Aqila. He’s residing with me while he studies. ::gestures to Lyara:: And this is Ensign Lyara. ::looks to the other others:: And this is Ensign Tarkin, our newest Engineer.
Aqila: :: a little more sure of himself :: The Wheel has blessed us with your presence, please enjoy our Aailudet.
Alroyo turned to Tarkin and gave a polite nod.
Lyara: Pleasure to meet you.
Tarrik: And you guys too!
Tarrik pauses for a moment, like he's trying to remember something before responding to Aqila
Tarrik: Resist not the turn of the wheel and let the ancestors guide your lessons of the future.
He got it wrong, but he did his best. The wince on his face made it obvious that he knew he was making a mistake.
oO Hopefully they at least appreciate the effort. Oo
Sadar: Did you have a safe trip from Starbase 118, Ensign Tarkin?
While they spoke Aqila seemed more interested in the presents and gave the small box Alroyo brought a shake.
Tarrik: I did! Nothing eventful but I got to meet a station engineer and we had a good conversation on the way over.
Lyara: I hope you brought enough food to feed the new ensign. After my trip from 118 I was famished.
Tarrik's cheeks tinted pink as he recalled his misguided choice to get food before reporting in.
Sadar: I-I wasn’t anticipating- I mean ::clears throat:: On Mizar II, a, uhh, we don’t invite guests when we celebrate a new home, so I didn’t know what to expect.
Aqila: Dona do you not remember your Aailudet? At school, we got to meet our new group, especially our teacher and show respect to our better and more knowledgeable. The teacher read from the Kahlto, “Let the flow of the Wheel’s motion cleanse your heart-”
Sadar: “and lead you on a new journey towards greater understanding.” The Tenet of Entry. ::deep breath:: Right. I remember.
Tarrik dips his head as they go through the prayer respectfully, lips shut tight.
Sadar: ::to Kolya:: Thank you. ::to Lyara and Tarkin:: And thank you both for joining us. It’s still a short while until the designated time, but feel free to take food and refreshments as you please. ::to Lyara, specifically: We also have Hasperat?
Tarrik doesn't seem to share the excitement Lyara does when Hasperat is mentioned.
Lyara: Hasperat? I could go for some hasperat.
Tarrik: I.. already ate.
Lyara's appetite is naturally untroubled by Tarrik's recent experiences and begins making a plate while he stands about awkwardly, lightly tapping on his thigh with his hand, the expression on his face belonging to a nervous man.
Sadar/Aqila: Response
Lyara: The more the merrier!
A small smile reaches Tarrik's face as he sees Sil step in with a handful and a half.
Silveira: Hey, welcome back. ::he grabbed the big present and made his way inside.:: OK clear some room, I need to set this down. Hello everyone.
As Sil sets down his gifts and Alroyo starts to look embarrassed. At least he's not the only one feeling awkward.
oO I wish the invitation had said to bring gifts. I knew I should have brought a slip. It looks like everyone else is bringing things worth a lot more than that... Oo
Silveira: It’s good to see you again Doc.
Sadar: Response
Sil turned to greet Kolya first. Tarrik was beginning to think he wears two hats: CTO and Chief Starship Greeter.
Silveira: And you must be our newest guest. Welcome to the Artemis. ::He winked at Sada:: I am your new crazy uncle Sil.
Aqila: Response
Sil greeted Tarkin and Lyara next, his head dipping into a nod.
Silveira: Al, Tarrik. Good to see you both already here.
Lyara: If you can claim crazy uncle I think I’ll claim wine aunt.
Tarkin: Hi Sil. Thanks for the soda before.
Silveira opened his arms and gestured to the wrapped gifts, adorned with their very own artemis themed wrapping paper.
Silveira: Sada and Kolya, I got you both a welcoming gift. I thought of bringing something to eat but I think these are right up your alley, especially yours Sada. Let’s unwrap them.
Sadar/Aqila: Response
Once that first gift was opened Tarrik saw a lamp being pulled free with serpent like creatures winding their way threateningly up the pole toward the light.
Silveira: I thought this would suit you. I believe you recognize the symbol.
Tarrik couldn't find any emblem on the lamp but Gila must have loved snakes. He made a note to keep that in mind for future gifts.
The nearly monochrome leathery thing drawn from the second package was a lot more confusing to Tarrik than the lamp. He tilted his head slightly to the side and looked to Sil curiously, assuming an explanation was coming if Aqila's expression was anything to go by.
Silveira: And that Kolya is a football, it’s an exact replica from the one that Portugal, my home place, used when they won their first major international competition. I will set us up a holoprogram for us to play with it. It's a good exercise and someone has to teach you some proper games.
Sadar/Aqila: Response
Silveira: Response
Sadar/Aqila: Response
Tarkin: Foot ball. Cool.
Alroyo took a bite but Tarrik didn't pick up on her displeasure. He was too worried about pronouncing the new word he learned correctly.
Tarkin: :quietly: Foot ball. Football.
Lyara: So Dr. Sadar, how’s it having your nephew here? Doesn’t keep you too busy I hope.
Alroyo's soft chuckle brought Tarrik back to the conversation.
Sadar: Response
Lyara: Well if you ever need some babysitting I'd be willing to help. ::Motioning to Sil:: And I’m sure crazy uncle would be a great influence.
Sadar/Silveira: Response
Tarrik: Is there anything mind altering in the drinks?
Sadar/Silveira/Lyara/Aqila: Response
Tarrik: Great! I'll avoid the wine.
He grins and helps himself to a cup, pulling back a sip and doing his best to relax.
Tarrik: So, any advice for new folks on the ship? This is my first Starfleet Assignment so I'm still trying to get my bearings.
