to USS Artemis-A – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
(( Path Out of Town – Holodeck 1, Deck 2, USS Artemis-A ))
With the Cavalry detachment moving Vitor had his mind working on one of his… Plans.
Hopefully between the four of them they could work something better, and plausible.
Silveira: We can’t beat a gang that big… I mean we can, this is the holodeck, but it’s going to be a bloody mess…
Tamio shook their head almost immediately.
K'Wara: Pass - I'd like to be able to reuse this outfit, thanks.
Munro: So?
Silveira: So… How about we trick them?
Ava nodded.
Munro: In what way?
K'Wara: It better be the prank to end all pranks if its going to convince 100+ thugs to give up a life of crime.
Jovenan: Or to give up a life, period. The Lieutenant didn’t seem too concerned if the criminals live.
Vitor opened his arms as his smile widened.
Silveira: We make them believe we are ghosts.
Munro laughed out loud.
Munro: Ghosts? Do you want us to wear white sheets with eye holes, Silveira?
K’Wara: If so, I'm out. ::gestures to their face:: Covering up these assets would be a crime.
Nan glanced Tamio up and down before turning to him.
Jovenan: It’s a good idea, if we can come up with how to do that. The people in these parts believe in ghosts, so why would the robbers be any different? And even if it fails, well, we’d still have our guns, I guess.
Vitor smiled and bowed slightly. If anyone could understand his reasoning it was Nan.
Silveira: Exactly. Considering they are a huge gang, the only thing we can do that might give us a chance when facing them is scattering them. ::Vitor opened his arms trying to simplify his idea.:: It’s like… Imagine that the gang is like a herd of… Horses. You cause a stampede and they just fly away…
Vitor waited to see how they would respond. His plan wasn’t exactly detailed… but it was a starting point. They kept riding as they talked.
Munro: I like your thinking. We can split up. Distract them, if they're in the mines then we have an advantage. Mines generally only have one exit and entrance… there's a reason a lot of cultures use holograms for mining now.
Jovenan: As long as they aren’t all sitting by the entrance, we might be able to get close. The mines tend to be deep and labyrinthine, so many of them might be hiding inside. But then what?
Vitor tipped his head and frowned. He hadn’t actually thought that much further.
Silveira: I don’t know… I am still planning it but maybe we can have them run inside…?
Munro: Exactly, a cave in :: cringes :: We may need some dynamite?
K'Wara: The mine may have some. As far as I know, ancient Humans used dynamite as an actual tool during excavations. Though... This mine is called Oak Island Mine. A cave-in may accidentally end up flooding the entire structure.
Nan nodded.
Jovenan: We should see what the mine is like, obviously, but if it’s indeed near the river, I’d be surprised if they didn’t have issues with water leaking in even without a cave-in. There’s a chance the criminals will drown.
Vitor didn’t exactly think of it that way. In his mind they would frighten the gang enough that they would… Just run…
Admittedly, the idea of having them caved in and dying there wasn’t exactly… Human, no matter how criminal and artificial the gang was.
Silveira: OK why don’t we worry about that when we reach there. We still need some things to make this work.
They eventually got to the river that the Lieutenant mentioned and
K'Wara: What can I say, I'm a bleeding heart. Don't much relish the idea of drowning a couple of hundred pepole, even if they are criminals..
Jovenan: Yeah… We’ll have to see if we can do that safely before blowing up anything. At least so that the Lieutenant and his men can dig through the cave-in before the entire mine is filled with water.
Silveira: Maybe we won’t need to come to that… Let’s try and scare them away first.
Munro: Response
K'Wara: Sounds like a plan.
They were getting closer as the terrain changed.
Jovenan: I think we’re almost there. We should be careful that we don’t accidentally come across with their patrol or something.
Silveira: I know, let’s keep our eyes open.
Munro: Response
Tamio took out their spyglass and scouted the sight.
K'Wara: Damn. Lookouts. If they see us, they'll alert the entire mine. And I don't think there's a chance of us sneaking the horses over there without getting spotted.
Vitor narrowed his eyes looking around. They had to find some way to get closer.
Jovenan: Let’s hide the horses somewhere and figure out how to get closer without being noticed.
Silveira: Good idea.
Munro/K’Wara: Response
They rode back behind the small hills that concealed their approach from the mine entrance. They were starting to hide their horse they were about to start walking when Nan stopped and raised her hand, pointing at the river.
Jovenan: Wait. What’s that over there?
Vitor frowned as he looked at where Nan was pointing.
Silveira: Let’s check it quickly.
Munro/K’Wara: Response
They got closer and Nan was the first to dismount and examine the place.
She looked at them before stepping closer to one of the crates and opening it. A cloud of dust emerged.
Jovenan: This must have been the old miners’ campsite. Look at these! ::pulls out a moth-eaten shirt and a rusty pickaxe::
Vitor nodded
Silveira: If…
Vitor stopped as he looked around and noticed something.
He smiled and dismounted as well, quickly strapping the horse to a log as he pointed.
Silveira: I think we got lucky…
Munro/K’Wara: Response
Vitor moved on to what looked like another crate. A large wooden one shaped like a barril, but far widder. He smiled as he looked at the brickwork, that covered with dirt was almost as indescribable as the dirty and sandy ground.
Silveira: This… This is it…
Vitor tried to open it, but the rust had covered any hinges, and for now he didn’t want to start breaking the wood. He was pretty sure this was either an old shaft or a well.
Either way it was likely to connect with the mine.
Hopefully.
Silveira: OK so I am betting this well or shaft connects with the mine. We can use it to scare them.
Munro/K’Wara/Jovenan: Response
Vitor began to look around for something that would work for his plan. Something that would produce noise, something that would sound scary.
And not necessarily dynamite.
Silveira: Something that can sound from another world, anything metallic like a saw… ::he gestured with his hands as he looked around:: The most scary thing is our imagination, and if we make enough noise, from inside the mine….
Vitor looked at them. Nan had a wonderful voice,Tamio… Well… Tamio sounded like Tamio and it really wasn’t scary enough and… He grinned at Munro.
Silveira: Ava… You don’t happen to have some British blood on your veins, do you? I somehow feel you could scream like that mythological creature… A Banshee? Have you heard of it?
Munro/K’Wara/Jovenan: Response
