(( Chief Operations Officer’s office, Deck 5, USS Artemis-A ))

Glim made a mental note to personally thank Commander Adea for dropping him in it, before shovelling another biscuit into his mouth. As he spoke, he sprayed a fine mist of crumbs into the air, which joined the rest of the thin layer of dust that papered his desk. Bergmen seemed to want some form of advice onto how to advance.

Vel: I see. So what you really mean is “how do I get a promotion, sir”?

Bergmen seemed somewhat startled by Glim’s candour.

Bergmen: From a career perspective, yes, sir. … But being an officer is about leadership through the example and an inspiration. And a lot of paperwork. Being a non-commissioned team leader is more about technical specialization in the line of duty, more… directly done, I would say. Sir. I have no problem with administrative duties. So, I aim to cultivate the mindset essential for a leader-officer.

Glim leaned back and threw up one of his stubby legs so it was resting on his desk. The other was then firmly crossed over the first. He gestured with the remains of the next blood truffle biscuit.

Vel: And you came to me? ::he chuckled:: Alright, I can give you some advice. ::he pointed a chunky finger at the human:: But I only have a few moments, okay?

Ollie nodded, revealing the PADD hidden behind his back. Glim tried not to roll his eyes but failed.

Bergmen: Understood, sir. May I make notes?

Vel: If you must. ::he waved at the empty chair opposite his desk:: Feel free to sit.

Bergmen: Response

Vel: ::letting out a low breath:: Pfffft, well, I guess the first thing to cultivate as a senior officer is a gut feeling that you can trust. ::he slapped his somewhat corpulent belly:: Trust your gut, and you can’t go wrong.

Bergmen: Response

"You know, I'm really easy to get along with most of the time, but I don't like bullies and I don't like threats, and I don't like you, Culluh. You can try and stop us from getting to the truth but I promise you that if you do I will respond with all the 'unique technologies' at my command." - Kathryn Janeway
