((Cockpit of the USS Griffin - Main Shuttle Bay, Deck 11, USS Artemis-A))
Gila slowly entered the empty runabout, her eyes never leaving the PADD with the mission briefing. There were equal amounts of apprehension and excitement present in her shivering expression, as she took to the pilot’s suit to start inputting the necessary flight instructions. It didn’t feel as unnatural for her to do as she’d expected, but she still didn’t feel confident. That was something she had to rectify. With the promotion to Lieutenant that the Captain had seen fit to punish her with, there was an element of authority granted to her that hadn’t been present when her second pip had still been hollow. Gila had known this instinctively upon receiving the promotion itself, but it wasn’t until a couple of hours ago that she realized what it meant for her as an officer.
On the remote frontier colony of Kahines II, a most remarkable archeological find had been discovered buried beneath a deep layer of sediment; a vast prison complex of Klingon origin, many centuries old. Starfleet and the Empire had agreed to launch a combined archeological expedition to Kahines II, but considering the lingering effects of Frontier Day, it would be a while before the Starfleet contingent could arrive on the planet. And so, Starfleet had decided to send a small team of locally familiar officers to begin primary survey and analysis.
Now, Gila hadn’t harbored any illusions that Starfleet brass weren’t aware of her past career - while she might be able to hide it from her junior officers, her files were readily available to every senior officer and operations operative - but between her newly attained rank and her history as an archeological surveyor, she’d been pegged to lead a team of fellow Artemis officers on the excursion.
And she was not thrilled.
Of all the people they could’ve asked-!
Filistrien: Petty Officer Filistrien, reporting for duty, Sir.
Commander Jovenan or Commander Dakora would’ve been far better options! Or Lieutenant Silveira! He was a passionate purveyor of military history, and considering the length of his service in the Borderlands region, surely he would be a far better choice for a joint archeological expedition with the Klingon Empire!?
Filistrien: Doctor Sadar?
Meanwhile, Gila was an inexperienced Doctor - even if she was an experienced Historian - and she had close to zero experience leading teams or conducting interspecies collaborative endeavours-
Filistrien: Lieutenant Sadar?
The unwelcome usage of her rank made Gila startle slightly in her seat as she turned about to gawk at the man behind her. He wasn’t unfamiliar, but she had had limited opportunity to converse with him before.
Sadar: O-Oh, uhh, s-sorry- ::clears throat:: W-Welcome aboard, Petty Officer.
Filistrien: Thank you, Sir. I was surprised to be picked for this mission, but I assure you, I shall perform to expectations.
Gila cleared her throat slightly. The team composition hadn’t been entirely up to her, but she’d considered what disciplines they would need, and had then put requests for personnel to the individual department heads. Intelligence hadn’t been one of her choices, but considering that they would be starting up a close cooperative effort with the Klingon Empire, she supposed she shouldn’t be surprised that the Captain and Commander Dakora had seen fit to assign an Intelligence Operative to the mission.
Sadar: Your record speaks for itself, Petty Officer. ::looks around the shuttle:: I, uhh, I don’t know much about the capabilities of the Griffin, but I hope she’ll give you the tools you need for your efforts.
Filistrien: Of course. When will we be departing?
Sadar: We’re just waiting on the rest of the team. DS224 Ops have already given us clearance to depart, so it won’t be long.
Gnai/Imril/Bergmen: Response
Gila and Filistrien both looked up as the first of their teammates for the mission boarded the runabout, and Gila stood up from the pilot’s seat in response to their appearance.
Sadar: W-Welcome aboard. I-I don’t know if you’ve met, but uhh, this is Petty Officer Filistrien. He’ll be observing the mission.
Filistrien: A pleasure to be serving with you, Sir.
Gnai/Imril/Bergmen: Response
((OOC: My main PC for the mini-mission will be Gila, but I figured an Intel person would be a useful addition, so feel free to talk to Xan too :D ))
