(( Bridge - Deck 1, USS Karnack ))

oO Two round moons go blink, blink, blink, Oo

Her own voice sang in her head. She had become lost in the memories of her life, that had also become intertwined with a life that she hadn't lived at all. Children seated in a classroom, they sung the song along with her…

No they didn't sing, they thought it. In their minds they sang …

oO As the sleepy sun begins to sink Oo

Ava was living in two places at once. She knew she was stood in the bridge of the Karnack but she was here, in an alien classroom with these children. Lost to them. Hundreds of voices in her head. She looked down at her hands … and they weren't her own. Not anymore.

She screamed. Which brought her out of the vision with a jolt. She was fully back on the bridge again. No more songs from her own childhood sung in her head anymore.

She had no recollection of how she had got to the bridge, the others didn't seem too alarmed at her screams. That meant that it was only real in her mind. In that other place that only existed in thought.

The bridge, smaller than the Artemis, was a ruin. Consoles blinked, others remained offline and others declared their status with shattered screens and warning alerts blinking.

MacKenzie: Stations, everyone. First order of business, let's get those forcefields up around the bridge in case our friends decide that climbing or leaping large distances is part of their repertoire...

There was no chair for the XO so she moved towards the helm station, leaving the ops station free for Bergmen.

(( Layout of the Bridge ))

While Breys moved to one of the consoles in the upper area of the bridge. Science no doubt, from there she would be able to manage the shield harmonics and frequencies.

Breys: We've got enough power to get a weak field going sir. Enough to keep a couple individuals out, but if we get another crowd like the last one we might have problems. Establishing now.

MacKenzie: Someone give me a status report. What systems are up and running?

Munro: The warp core is functioning, surprisingly well all things considered. I can confirm that Lt K'Wara and their team are in the Shuttle Bay. Attempting to pinpoint the location of Commander Jovenan’s team.

Bergmen: Response

Breys: On my end about half the shield emitters look stable, maybe enough to cast a full shield if the people in engineering are smarter than me. External sensors are coming through with a lot of static, readings are unintelligible. The deflector array readouts are flickering wildly, I think it may be damaged.

Bergmen: Response

Ava turned to the commanding officer. She had never been accused of being a great pilot. The opposite in fact, she had done enough to pass her recertifications over the years. Getting a ship off this planet … intact. She really wished they had K'Wara at the helm, they were the most accomplished pilot on the crew.

MacKenzie: Are internal sensors online? Can we get eyes on the rest of the crew?

Breys: I don't have any readouts for internal sensors at this console. ::she turns to Bergmen and Munro:: do either of you?

Munro: I have navigational controls and sensors.

The Karnack was an older ship and she wasn't about to use extra power to shift controls between stations.

Munro: Don't override controls, that will use additional power.

Bergmen: Response

MacKenzie: What about comms? Can we at least manage that much?

Munro: The communications array is on this deck. It would be an additional power drain. Not to mention the interference from the Maelstrom.

Bergmen: Response

Breys: It sounds like there is interference that needs cleared up if we're going to get a signal anywhere. Any clue on how to tune out an astronomical anomaly?

Munro: Ordinarily we'd try to match the subspace frequency.

Mackenzie/Bergmen: Response

Breys: What if instead of tuning out of the anomaly we tune into it? We use the radiation of the Maelstrom as a carrier wave to pierce its own envelope.

Munro: I like that, we have the data available to use already.

Mackenzie/Bergmen: Response

Breys: We already have a vague idea for the frequency range, but we'll need to be more specific if we're going to use it as a carrier wave. We need to find the Maelstrom's exact frequency.

Ava looked to her hands again. She saw claws briefly before they resembled her own… almost. Were they discoloured? Was it a trick or the light?

Munro: :: thinking :: The transporters. We already have the information.

Ava pulled the tricorder strapped to her waist, stood up and moved across the bridge and began to scan herself, Breys and Bergmen.

Mackenzie/Breys/Bergmen: Response

She began to read cellular distortions.

Munro: Living beings give off energy fluctuations, it's how we are able to distinguish life signs. When we went through the teleporter, the so-called Faraday Rooms. We changed our energy patterns to match the maelstrom's frequency.

Mackenzie/Breys/Bergmen: Response

Ava moved closer to Breys.

Munro: I don't know much about Ornaran physiology, I'm a commander not a doctor. But what I do know is that they have a more unique physiological state. They are able to displace energy matter, in the form of electrical discharge, from their bodies :: the tricorder chirruped and Ava smiled :: Ensign Breys here may be the answer. She's a walking energy sensor. We have the frequency :: looks to Breys :: Not a lot of people get to say that.

Mackenzie/Breys/Bergmen: Response

Ava returned to her station.

Munro: The communications array is now online. I've diverted power from life support in Sickbay and Engineering.
