(( Rakantha Central Hospital, Bajor ))
The index finger on his left hand rose slightly and tapped the bed. The neurons' response was so different and confusing. He could feel the touch, he could feel the bar that the brush of his finger caressed, but to his head, it was as if the feeling was in a distant land, like a planet he was watching from the window of Artemis hundreds of kilometers below him.
Gnai: Are you okay, Chevalier?
Jovenan: Jaseb, Jaseb, can you hear us? How do you feel?
Voices, so loud, so noisy, cut into his brain as a knife’s blade. The organ smugglers could very well have cut his brain without anesthesia, and it would have hurt less.
Jaseb tried to focus on the shapes next to him, address them, determine who they belonged to, if he could remember.
Chevalier: ::hoarse::
The hoarseness of his voice from his parched throat didn't sound like his own. He tried to raise his hand and touch the outline of what he thought might be the hand of another person standing by his bed, but it never came. His hand didn't come up, and it disappeared as the authoritative voice echoed through the room again.
MacKenzie: Lieutenant, a word?
((OOC: Chevalier is going to be politely ignoring whatever is happening with MacKenzie and Jovenan too))
There was someone else too. A shadow, an outline so inhuman. His kin, maybe?
Gnai: Are you able to speak much?
Chevalier: ::hoarsely whispers:: Wa…waaa…tterrr…
Whatever he tried to articulate sounded like halfway comprehensible words. He almost coughed as he tried to say the words, but he was too weak. His vision began to sharpen and he felt so weak that he desperately wanted to sleep again. All he wanted was to close his eyes, surrender to it, and sleep.
Gnai: This does not know if you heard... but Crewman Renirs is making a full recovery. Neither Savel nor this were injured.
That wasn’t the voice of Jaseb’s kin. So different, so…artificial to Chevalier’s ears, but so familiar was the voice to his mind. Was it Gnai? Yes, Gnai, it was Gnai who spoke!
oO Please give me a little water, Gnai, before I pass out again… Oo
The shadow silhouette came closer, blurrier than ever.
