((Elysium Main Level - Deck 6 - USS Artemis-A))
After the tour of the security centre conducted by Ensign Cole they had decided to take some lunch in Elysium. It turned out that Elysium resembled one of those exclusive restaurants and bars that admirals and brass liked to frequent. Ava was more drawn towards much less… refined establishments.
At least the view was good. The station's enormity was clearly visible from this angle of the ship, with thousands of windows peering back at them from the dock.
Munro: Did you always want to join Starfleet?
Cole: I didn’t always plan on it. At first, I wanted to make my own way, maybe as a civilian investigator. But no matter how far I drifted, Starfleet kept pulling me back. Eventually, I stopped fighting it and stepped into the uniform, on my own terms.
Ava nodded, Starfleet had a way of drawing people in. She hadn't needed as much persuasion, from the age of 14 she wanted nothing else. She'd only regretted the decision once. But Ava couldn't help raise her eyebrow at the mention of her own ‘terms’.
Munro: On your own terms, huh? :: Ava let out a small laugh :: And what about the rest of the family? Are they also in Starfleet :: beat :: On their own terms?
Cole: I have a sibling, Juno, in secondary school. Along with some half siblings and other extended family, and my ‘Aunt’ Rea.
When the Tellarite waiter returned, he placed several drinks on the table. Ava had ordered a Naura Bomb - which was a weird concoction of fruity gins across different species. She nodded her thanks as he slipped away to attend some other tables.
Munro: You have an aunt as well?
Cole: She’s a family friend that has become family. She’s a bit of a mystery. We joke that she might be a temporal agent, a Q observer, or a former Section 31 operative.
Ava guffawed at that.
Munro: I aim to one day have such a mystique of my own :: takes a sip of her drink :: My aunt teaches at the academy in SecTac. You might have had classes with her, Professor Munro? Otherwise known as ‘The Battleaxe’.
Cole: Response
Another waiter approached, balancing several plates. Instinctively her stomach rumbled. Suzie rushed out from under the table where she had been resting and yelped at the server.
Munro: Finally, I'm starved :: to Suzie :: Calm.
The dog immediately sat down.
Cole: Response
Munro: If only ensigns were so easy to train :: winks mischievously ::
Cole: Response
